A method positions a sensor in a honeycomb body which is provided with hollow spaces that can be penetrated at least in part by an exhaust gas. The sensor is placed in an area of the honeycomb body in which at least one minimum hydrogen concentration occurs when the honeycomb body is operated in the emission system of a motor vehicle. The sensor positioning method allows the sensor to be placed in the honeycomb body in such a way that systematic errors that occur are kept as small as possible as a result of an inherent transverse sensitivity of the sensor to hydrogen. This applies especially to lambda probes. A honeycomb body contains the sensor which is placed so as to supply particularly reliable test data whose systematic error is as small as possible.

A honeycomb body, which can be traversed by a fluid, in particular the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine, at least partially in a through-flow direction, includes a plurality of at least partially traversable cavities that form a honeycomb structure located in a casing. At least one sensor has at least first and second subsections. At least the second subsection extends into the honeycomb structure and penetrates at least part of the cavities. At least the first subsection extends beyond the casing. The first and second subsections are substantially rigid and form an angle other than 180 degrees in a first plane is encompassing the through-flow direction and/or a second plane perpendicular to the through-flow direction. The angled construction of the sensor permits the honeycomb body to have a space-saving construction that includes at least one sensor. A process for producing a honeycomb body includes a) producing a tubular casing from sheet metal; b) introducing a hole, delimited by a rim, into the sheet metal; c) fitting a flange piece for a measurement sensor to the hole rim; d) introducing a honeycomb structure into the tubular casing; and e) joining the tubular casing to the honeycomb structure and the flange piece by brazing or welding in a single, common, heat treatment process. Steps a), b) and c) are carried out in any desired order. A honeycomb body includes a honeycomb structure. A tubular casing surrounds the honeycomb structure, has a hole delimited by a rim, and has a necked region surrounding the hole. A flange piece for a measurement sensor is brazed to the hole rim. The process allows a flange piece to be connected to the tubular casing in an advantageous manner as part of an on-going heat treatment process, resulting in a simple and fast production and consequently a reduction of costs.

Preferably, an evaporator unit is configured as the evaporator chamber and a hydrolysis catalytic converter is disposed outside the exhaust system. As a result, the size of the hydrolysis catalytic converter is reduced, allowing compact construction.

The carrier body is positioned downstream of the supply in the flow direction, and the carrier body has at least one metallic base body at least partially including a coating with a storage capability for the reducing agent. Two methods for the dosed provision of a reducing agent, especially a solid reducing agent, are also provided. The methods and device allow economical use of the reducing agent while guaranteeing an approximately 100% reaction of the nitrogen oxides contained in the exhaust gas.
