摘要： A method of superimposing and displaying a color image expressed by color code data and a color image expressed by three primary color dot data comprises the steps of converting the color code data into three primary color density data while converting the three primary color dot data into density data which are in the same form as the three primary color density data, and selectively displaying one of the two density data for each pixel on a display screen. Thus, two types of color image data, i.e., color code data and three primary color dot data are allowed to be handled in the same way and to be superimposed on a color display. This is useful in a color image filing system based on a workstation. In transferring the two types of color image data to a printer, the two image data are combined in memories and transferred to the printer as dot data through the existing printer interface. At the printer, the combined image data is divided into the previous two types of image data and printed in the same manner as in the display action.

摘要： An image filing apparatus and method for receiving as multivalue data an image corresponding to a document, converting the data to binary image data and storing the binary image data. According to the features of the present invention, pixels of that portion of an input image corresponding to a particular color are extracted, and luminance data expressing monochromatic binary image data and binary image data designating colored portions are stored in different planes. Not only black pixels but also pixels expressed in a particular color such as red are described in the plane for the luminance data. Pixels having a particular color to be expressed in "red" such as red characters are extracted and recorded as "1" in another particular color plane, for example, in R-plane different from the luminance plane. The R-plane is recorded with binary image data; only pixels written in "red" are expressed as "1" there and other pixels as "0". When outputted, the pixels in which the contents of the luminance plane are "1" and the contents of the R-plane are "0" are displayed in black and the pixels in which the contents of the R-plane are "1" are displayed in red.

摘要： A document information compression and retrieval system which reduces the document data amount and shortens the retrieval time when mass document information is registered and retrieved. A method of registering document information in a document information retrieval system which stores document information consisting of a large number of characters for retrieval of the stored document information. Entered document information is separated into words. Whether or not each of the words is a word to which a compressed code is assigned is determined. If not already assigned, a compressed code is assigned to the word. The words are converted into the assigned compressed codes for storing a compressed text. At output, retrieval information is accepted and converted into compressed code and stored compressed texts are searched for the compressed text matching the compressed code of the retrieval information, then the words corresponding to the compressed codes are used to expand the compressed text into original document information.

摘要： A document is scanned by an optical scanner to be converted into digital image data to be transmitted to an image memory. Characters are extracted from the digital image data one by one and features are extracted from each of the extracted characters. The features as standard patterns stored in a character recognition dictionary are read out to be subjected to 90 degree rotation, 180 degree rotation and 270 degree rotation by a feature rotator, thereby to produce standard patterns of the four directions. Similarity measures are individually calculated between the standard patterns of the four directions and the features of each extracted character, with respect to the four directions. This processing is repeated for a plurality of characters recorded in the document to select a direction having the maximum add value of the similarity measures, thereby to detect an input direction of the document. When the detected direction is not a proper direction, the counterclockwise rotation is given to the digital image data to correct the digital image data to the proper direction.
