Three airways are formed between the upper duct and the separator, seven muffler chambers are formed between the lower duct and the separator, and the airways and the muffler chambers are communicated with each other through vent holes which are formed in the separator. An intake muffler duct in which multiple muffler chambers are integrated with the airways, can be formed from only three components, which are an upper duct, a lower duct and a separator, and moreover although it has a compact structure, it is possible to reduce the intake noise effectively.

An outlet check valve includes an output valve seat provided at an outlet port or an outlet passage for compressed air in the vicinity of an outlet port of a compression mechanism and an outlet valve body. The valve seat and valve body are biased away from each other by a gravitational force or a spring. With this arrangement, even if a compressor is rotated at a low speed during a start-up operation, it is possible to cause stagnant liquid to undergo reverse flow into an accumulator disposed on the suction side and to store the liquid temporarily, thereby removing the liquid in the compression spaces and the suction passages and facilitating the start-up operation in a normal rotational direction. A pressure difference between the pressures upstream and downstream relative to the valve body is large when the normal rotating operation is stopped. By this pressure difference, the outlet valve body is moved to close the outlet valve seat, thereby to prevent the reverse rotation of the compression mechanism.

The compressor includes a means for adjusting and cooling the intermediate pressure which acts on a part of the swirling spiral impeller portion 13 by means of the lubricant oil stored in a lubricant oil reservoir 26 to which the discharge pressure in the sealed container acts. The lubricant oil supplied to the compression portion is provided under any pressure condition, and is always supplied stably. The present invention provides a low-pressure scroll compressor for use in a refrigerating system of an air conditioning apparatus or the like. Lubricating oil is intermittently supplied to a compressor unit in proportional relation to the rotating number of the motor, avoiding an excessive or insufficient supply of a lubricating oil and realizing a proper supply of the lubricating oil even in high-speed rotation of the motor. Thus the compressor is highly reliable. Further, a screening plate is provided in the suction space of a compressor, so that the lubricating oil in the coolant or cooling medium can be effectively separated from the coolant, resulting in enhancement of collecting efficiency of the lubricating oil. Moreover, the screening plate is useful to prevent a hermetic terminal from being cooled by the returning coolant. Otherwise, dew condensation would occur on the hermetic terminal, and leakage or shortcircuiting would be caused, a vital obstacle to the safety of the compressor.

The passage resistance can be made larger in comparison with the case where resistance is caused in a small space of a sliding portion of a bearing, and an accurate value of the passage resistance can be preset with the oil flow rate being low, thereby preventing flow of the lubrication oil to the compression operating spaces from increasing in quantity. Thus, there is provided a highly reliable scroll compressor which has a high compression efficiency, consumes power constantly, and has no risk of compression of the lubrication oil in the compression operating spaces.

The scroll gas compressor of the invention is so constructed that an enclosed container is partitioned by a fixed scroll member into a high pressure chamber and a low pressure chamber for gas-liquid separating intake refrigerant and storing it, the low pressure chamber being disposed at the lower portion and the high pressure chamber at the upper portion of enclosed container, the high pressure chamber disposing therein a drive unit related to a scroll compression mechanism and a lubricating oil sump, and the fixed scroll member serving also as part of the bottom of the lubricating oil sump, thereby providing that is small-sized, wide in an operational speed range, and superior in durability, and that prevents absorption of heat and noise propagation from the low pressure chamber serving as both the gas-liquid separation chamber and the reservoir of fluid, thereby improving the compression efficiency and lowering noise.
