    摘要: An exemplary implantable stimulator includes at least one electrode contact array and at least one additional electrode contact. Both the electrode contact array and the additional electrode contact are disposed on an external surface of the stimulator. The electrode contact array includes multiple electrode contacts that are configured to have a first polarity. The additional electrode is configured to have a second polarity. One or more of the electrode contacts disposed on the stimulator are configured to deliver monopolar stimulation and/or multipolar stimulation. Exemplary methods of stimulating a stimulation site within a patient include providing at least one electrode contact array and at least one additional electrode contact. Both the electrode contact array and the additional electrode contact are disposed on an external surface of the stimulator. The electrode contact array includes multiple electrode contacts that are configured to have a first polarity. The additional electrode is configured to have a second polarity. The method further includes applying an electrical stimulation current to the stimulation site via one or more of the electrode contacts that are disposed on the stimulator.

    摘要: A method of treating a patient and an external programmer for use with a neurostimulator. Electrical stimulation energy is serially conveyed into tissue of the patient via different combinations of electrodes implanted within the patient, thereby creating one or more clinical effects for each of the different electrode combinations. An influence of each of the different electrode combinations on the clinical effect(s) is determined. A graphical indication of the one or more clinical effects is generated based on the determined electrode combination influences. A graphical representation of the electrodes is displayed. The graphical indication of the clinical effect(s) is displayed adjacent the graphical electrode representation, such that a user can view an extent to which each of the different electrode combinations influences the clinical effect(s).

    摘要: An external control device, neurostimulation system, and method of programming a neurostimulator. A volume of tissue activation for each of a first one or more candidate stimulation parameter sets is simulated without conveying electrical stimulation energy into the tissue. One of the first candidate stimulation parameter set(s) is selected based on each simulated volume of tissue activation. Electrical stimulation energy is conveyed into the tissue in accordance with a second one or more candidate stimulation parameter sets, wherein the initial one of the second candidate stimulation parameter set(s) is the selected one of the first candidate stimulation parameter set(s). One of the second candidate stimulation parameter set(s) is selected based on a therapeutic efficacy of the electrical stimulation energy conveyed into the tissue. The neurostimulator is programmed with the selected one of the second candidate stimulation parameter set(s).

The neurostimulator is implanted within a tissue pocket of a patient, and electrical energy is conveyed from the neurostimulator to stimulate a target tissue site remote from the tissue pocket. The neurostimulator has a case with which one or more electrodes are associated. The electrical energy is returned to the electrode(s) in a manner that prevents, or at least reduces, pocket stimulation that may otherwise occur due to the return of electrical energy to the case of the neurostimulator.

    摘要: A system for programming a neurostimulation device coupled to one or more electrodes. The system comprises a user interface configured for allowing a user to select a set of stimulation parameters and to define a graphical shape representative of an anatomical region of interest. The system further comprises memory configured for storing the graphical shape in registration with an anatomical reference, and output circuitry configured for communicating with the neurostimulation device. The system further comprises a controller configured for recalling the registered graphical shape and anatomical reference from the memory, generating display signals capable of prompting the user interface to concurrently display a representation of the electrode(s) relative to the recalled graphical shape and anatomical reference, and programming the neurostimulation device with the selected stimulation parameter set via the output circuitry.
