摘要: A low resistance electrical connection is disclosed to connect two dissimilar electroconductive materials, one of which is a fiber, bundle of fibers or a film of an electroconductive polymer, carbon or graphite to an electroconductive metal collector. The connection is achieved by electroplating at an initial low current density the edge ends of a fiber or bundle of fibers or the edges of a cloth or film with an electroconductive metal, e.g. copper, silver and the like; thereafter crimping a fine electroconductive wire mesh onto said plated area and then continuing the said plating process until the wire mesh or gauze is substantially encapsulated with said electroplated metal. Alternative, the electroplated fiber ends may be joined by solder, as by dipping the ends or edges into a molten solder bath or laying a bead of solder substantially onto the copper plated edge of the fiber, bundle, cloth or film. Such practice ensures the electroconductive polymer, carbon or graphite end or edge will be intimately bound to the electroconductive metal forming the collector or frame. In many instances it is necessary that the collector metal and/or frame be insulated both electrically and chemically from contact with the environment into which the electroconductive polymer, graphite, carbon and the like is to be used. A procedure is described for protecting the collector frame when placed in hostile environment service.

摘要: A novel flexible carbon article for an electrode is disclosed for use in an electrical storage device in which the flexible carbon article, such as a planar sheet of a plurality of substantially parallel fibers or ribbons, and in which the fibers or ribbons have a Young's modulus of less than 1 MM psi (6.89 Gpa). The invention also resides in an electrical energy storage device, such as a secondary battery, comprising a water impermeable housing having at least one and preferably more than two cells in series, wherein a battery containing at least two cells also contains at least one shared bipolar electrode made of the flexible carbon article. Each cell has a foraminous separator between each pair of electrodes and contains an electrolyte comprising an ionizable salt in a non-aqueous fluid. Also disclosed are methods of making the electrode from an unfiltered precursor polymer and from a sub-acrylic polymer.

摘要: There is described an electroconductive tow or yarn, made from continuous filaments or staple fibers yarns, prepared from stabilized petroleum pitch, coal tar pitch or a synthetic fiber forming material which on at least partial carbonization is electroconductive, for example, polyacrylonitrile, are formed into coil-like fibers or filaments by winding the tow or yarn on a mandrel, but preferably by knitting the tow or yarn into a cloth, and heat treating the so formed tow or yarn to a carbonizing temperature (450.degree. C. to about 1500.degree. C.) to set a coilure (a non-textile crimp) therein as well as electroconductance thereto, and incorporating the coilure structure into scrim yarns, scrim capcoats, composites with tuft-lock components as well as incorporation into the carpet yarns, to provide an anti-static property to the finished carpet.
