摘要: In a telecommunication system that generates more than one type of communication data stream, in which each data stream exhibits a distinctive data transfer format, bandwidth utilization is improved by first reformatting the different data transfer formats so that all of the data is compatible with a common data transfer protocol, for example, the Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) protocol. The communication data and the corresponding control data, required to maintain communication data alignment, are multiplexed into a single data stream which is then transmitted over a common telecommunication channel to a receiving station.

摘要: A method and apparatus for providing data to a network terminal. A network node receives information relating to a first instance of a client running at the network terminal. Using the information, the network node concurrently runs a second instance of the client that emulates the first instance. Using the second instance, the network node generates a request for data required by the first instance. Before receiving a request for data generated by the first instance, the network node sends the request for data required by the first instance to a remote server and receives a response that includes the required data. The required data is then sent to the network terminal. The advantage of this is that the request for data required is generated before the network node receives a request from the network terminal. This allows the request to be handled more quickly.

摘要: Apparatus for use within a radio access network of a cellular communications network, where the cellular communications network belongs to an operator domain. The apparatus comprises a radio control unit for controlling radio channels within one or more cells of the radio access network, and a data source for maintaining or accessing data content, the data source being allocated in use an IP address that is unique at least within said operator domain. The apparatus further comprises an IP packet classifier configurable to inspect packets received from a client and to identify packets addressed to said IP address, and to redirect such identified packets to said data source. The apparatus also comprises an IP packet route selector configured to react to the establishment of a connection between a client and said data source by routing data content packets from said data source to the client via a radio channel or channels controlled by said radio control unit. The IP packet route selector is further able to react to a handover of the client to a peer apparatus responsible for a different set of radio channels by routing data content packets from said data source to the client via an IP backbone network.

摘要: A method of allowing a nomadic terminal to access a home network on the Layer 2 level. The method comprises connecting said terminal to a remote access network via an access point, the remote access network being connected to an operator's backbone network via a remote access router. Signalling is exchanged between the access point and an authentication server within the backbone network in order to authenticate the terminal to the authentication server and, following successful authentication, a Layer 2 tunnel extending across the backbone network is established for the purpose of connecting said nomadic terminal to the home network.

摘要: A method, computer readable medium and serving node includes an interface configured to exchange data with a user equipment and with a gateway node of a network; and a processor. The processor is configured to implement a classifier function for intercepting a request from the user equipment, and for analyzing whether the request complies with pre-established categorization rules, a request analyzer function for analyzing the request when the request complies with the pre-established categorization rules and for selecting one mode of plural available modes, and an application function for requesting a quality of service, QoS, bearer to be established between the serving node and the user equipment when the selected mode includes a QoS requirement.

摘要: A net-work node (1) of a telecommunication network (6) controls a play-out of cached content to a user equipment (2a, 2b). The network node retrieves an address contained in a response from the core network (5) to a request associated with the user equipment. If the network node detects that the address is associated with a defined server, e.g. a credit refill server or an advertisement server, the play-out of cached content to the user equipment is disabled. The play-out is activated again when a response to an additional request contains an address that is associated with another source than said defined server.
