摘要: A device for altering a feed stock is made of a structure for passage of a feed stock. The structure can be either an extruded unibody structure, or a nested structure. The structure has an interior and an exterior section, and a longitudinal axis, and walls defining two sets of open-ended passages which extend along the longitudinal axis. The two sets of passages have different cross sectional shapes or dimensions with respect to each other. When the structure is nested, at least one set of channels have a cross section in the shape of truncated arcs. A method for making the unibody structure involves extruding a plasticized raw material mixture through a die, followed by heat-treating. A method of altering a feed stock which involves passing a feed stock into the device through one set of passages to cause an altering of the feed stock, and thereafter passing the output stream into and through the other set of channels to the exterior of the device.

摘要: A membrane-coated substrate and method for forming the membrane coating on the substrate that involves providing a porous inorganic monolithic substrate having one or more through channels having inner surfaces, providing solid polymeric film fusible to the substrate, and joining the film to the substrate by applying the film in a softened state to those inner surfaces and applying pressure thereto, so that the film fuses to and coats the inner surfaces of the channels. A workstream is modified by passing it through the membrane-coated substrate to cause modification of the workstream by the membrane coating.

摘要: According to one aspect of the present invention the fuel cell device includes an electrolyte sheet. The electrolyte sheet has a substantially non-porous body of a varied thickness, a relatively smooth surface and a more textured surface with multiple indentations therein, wherein the thickest part of the electrolyte sheet is at least 0.5 micrometers greater than the thinnest part of said electrolyte sheet. The side of the electrolyte sheet with a relatively smooth surface is subjected to the predominately tensile force and the other, more textured surface subjected to predominately compressive force. According to one embodiment, the fuel cell also includes one cathode disposed on the more textured side of said electrolyte sheet at least at least one anode disposed opposite the cathode on the relatively smooth side of aid electrolyte sheet. According to one embodiment, the relatively smooth side of the electrolyte sheet is the fuel facing side and the more textured side is the air-facing side.

摘要: Thin inorganic sintered structures having strength and flexibility sufficient to permit bending without breakage in at least one direction to a radius of curvature of less than 20 centimeters, methods for making them, and products incorporating them, are described. Preferred sintered ceramic structures according to the invention can comprise zirconias, titanias, aluminas, silicas, rare earth metal oxides, alkaline oxides, alkaline earth metal oxides and first, second, and third transition series metal oxides and combinations thereof and therebetween. Basically, the fuel cell is formed from an electrode/electrolyte structure including an array of anode electrodes and cathode electrodes disposed on opposing sides of an electrolyte sheet, the anode and cathode electrodes being electrically connected in series, parallel, or a combination thereof by electrical conductors that traverse via holes in the electrolyte sheet. Several different embodiments of electrical conductors which have a specific composition and/or a specific geometry are described herein.

The formed bodies are made self-supporting immediately after forming or soon thereafter by contacting the shaped body with a drying or hardening liquid in which the solvent is soluble. A method is also disclosed for simultaneously drying a formed body and creating or increasing the porosity of the body by adding solid particles which are soluble in the drying liquid.
