A contact spring and/or a retention spring for a cigar lighter plug is movable from a small diameter position to a large diameter position to fit into small and large diameter sockets, respectively. A stopper, movable with the contact spring and/or retention spring is moved into a position, when the large diameter position is chosen, which blocks insertion of the plug into a small diameter socket. This prevents distortion of the spring element.

A wholly aromatic polyamide fiber which comprises a wholly aromatic polyamide and an organic phosphorus compound having one or more halogen atoms. The wholly aromatic polyamide has repeating units of which at least about 85 mol % are represented by the formula: ##STR1## The amount of the organic phosphorus compound having one or more halogen atoms is such as to provide a halogen atom content of 0.5% to 25.0% and a phosphorus atom content of 0.05% to 6.0% by weight of the wholly aromatic polyamide. The obtained wholly aromatic polyamide fiber has excellent flame-resistance, good color and good fiber properties.

A method of preparing a homogeneous solution of a polymer whose recurring structural units are predominantly metaphenylene isophthalamide units, comprising:A. blending at a temperature of from -20.degree.C to 10.degree.C,1. a fiber-forming polymer in which at least 90 mol percent of the total recurring structural units are metaphenylene isophthalamide units, and2. a solvent consisting of at least 80% by weight N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone,In the substantial absence of inorganic salts and at a polymer concentration of from 15 to 30 percent by weight based on the total weight of the polymer and the solvent, to form a uniform slurry, andB. heating the slurry to a temperature between T.sub.1 and T.sub.2 but not higher than 130.degree.C, thus forming the solution;whereinT.sub.1 = -18 + 3C - 1.5X,andT.sub.2 = 330 - 10C + 7X,both T.sub.1 and T.sub.2 being in degrees centigrade, C being the weight percent of polymer in the blend, and X being the mol percent of recurring structural units other than metaphenylene isophthalamide.
