Abstract:
A non-destructive, inline, multi-channel fabric conductivity measurement system uses an array of opposing paired transmit/receive microwave horns on opposite sides of a fabric material moving in a production line, each horn pair corresponding to a channel in the system. A processor-based controller can control channel hopping, frequency hopping, and measurement orientation to acquire measurements of material conductivity and anisotropy, which measurements can be analyzed for defects that can be flagged in real time during production. Measurements and/or analyses can be stored to make roll-to-roll, batch-to-batch, day-to-day, or production-phase-to-production-phase comparisons useful in identifying the sources of production problems and/or the causes of corrections.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to techniques to secure interactions between entities communicating on a computer network. In general, techniques are described in which a first entity provides assurances to a second entity that an agent interacting with the second entity is interacting with the second entity on behalf of the first entity. Specifically, the techniques provide the second entity with information tending to indicate that the first entity authorized the agent to perform the interaction with the second entity pursuant to some prior agreement between the two entities. The techniques employ authentication systems and encryption to ensure the security of the interaction.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for measuring spinal instability provides a vertebrae distractor having a pair of distractor arms driven by a motor which separate adjacent vertebrae of a motion segment unit of the spine at a constant rate of distraction up to a predetermined maximum force and measuring the resistance of the adjacent vertebrae to the force. The changes in the resistance to distraction are detected and recorded. The data thus provided is then compared to predetermined standards. A determination concerning further treatment of the subject patient may be based upon the results obtained.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to techniques of facilitating document transmission from one entity through an electronic communications network. An entity may be a legally recognized person such as a corporation, partnership, organization, government, individual, and the like. As a legally recognized person, an entity may act as a principal with respect to one or more authorized agents. Furthermore, as a legal person, an entity may authorize one or more of its agents to use fax transmission equipment such as the fax certification system described herein. The techniques of this invention assure a second entity that a first entity has indeed authorized its agent to send a document from a fax station under the controls of the first entity.
Abstract:
A sight mount for a firearm includes a base, a pair of upwardly extending protective ears, and a rearwardly extending platform for supporting an iron sight assembly. The base includes dovetail rails for securing the base to a firearm, and transverse slots for accepting an electronic sight. The protective ears serve to protect the iron sight assembly, particularly when the electronic sight is removed, and also serve to stabilize the iron sight assembly. The sight mount enables a user to either use the electronic sight alone, or the iron sights, by simply shifting the direction of the user's view into the sight. Alternately, the electronic sight may be removed and the iron sights used directly, without requiring any adjustment of the iron sights.
Abstract:
A CPVC adhesive for joining CPVC pipes comprises: (a) about 18 to 28 wt % CPVC resin; (b) a high vapor pressure solvent comprising about 15 to 35 wt % tetrahydrofuran and 0 to about 30 wt % methyl ethyl ketone; and (c) a low vapor pressure solvent comprising about 20 to 45 wt % cyclohexanone, 0 to about 30 wt % N-methyl pyrrolidone, and 0 to 10 wt % dibasic esters (a mixture of refined dimethyl esters of adipic, glutaric, and succinic acids). The VOC level of the CPVC adhesive composition of the invention is at or below the allowed maximum value of 450 g/l, yet the adhesive meets or exceeds required performance standards, such as hydrostatic burst strength and hydrostatic sustained pressure test.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for inspecting coatings on the surface of an object includes a light source of a ring light to uniformly light an object that is placed inside a diffusing view chamber. A video system measures the reflected light intensity from the surface of the object to determine if there are voids in the surface coating.
Abstract:
The invention provides a method and system of implementing a high performance “non-RACF external security-manager product,” which maintains and translates a merged single source of authorizations to both mainframe and Microsoft Windows Active Directory (AD) systems. In one embodiment, a method comprises generating at a server computer access information for a mainframe computer indicative of mainframe authorization for a set of users, receiving from the mainframe computer information indicative of an authorization request, the information indicative of the authorization request identifying a user trying to access the mainframe computer, and sending at least a portion of the access information from the server computer to the mainframe computer, the portion of the access information including mainframe access information for the user.

Abstract:
A wood product is made from treating wood with two solutions, in series, including a penetrating solution and a topcoat composition. The penetrating solution is made up of boric acid, a metallocene catalyst, a free radical initiator, a first film-forming polymer and an adhesion promoter. The topcoat includes a second continuous film-forming polymer. Application of the penetrating solution to the wood gets the solution into the wood to cross-link boric acid with cellulose fibers, then the topcoat forms the continuous film. The topcoat seals in the penetrating solution so that it does not leach out during subsequent exposure to water and weather, allowing soluble salts such as borax to migrate and infiltrate deeper into the wood. Microbiological growth is prevented by several mechanisms.
Abstract:
A manufacturing facility for manufacturing products according to customer orders includes a kitting facility at which components are collected for a product in a customer order. The manufacturing facility also includes a build cell in which the component are assembled, configured, and tested according to the customer order to form a product. The manufacturing facility also includes a boxing facility at which the product is packaged. A transportation system transports the two or more components from the kitting facility to the build cell and transports the product to the boxing facility, whereby the product is assembled, configured, and tested in the build cell and packaged at the boxing facility.
