摘要: A structural/biological implant and method of use. The implant being utilized as a single or multiple staged system that is designed to encourage new alveolar bone growth with or without the need to obtain autologous bone. The implant has an apical portion that is fastened into existing bone, with the remainder of the implant left outside of existing bone. The exposed portion of the implant may have an external shape or configuration with a variety of attached and/or integrally formed mechanical retention and stability elements. Osteotropic/angiotropic material may be associated with the implant to induce and or conduct new bone growth and possible vascularization, thus, rather than fitting the implant into the bone, the bone is grown integratively with the implant. The osteotropic/angiotropic materials may be simultaneously placed with the staged implant to provide consistent stabilization for the materials and to provide an immediately available surface for bone cell adhesion and growth. The invention thus allows implants to be used in location where the volume and/or shape of the bone would not be adequate for existing implant systems.

摘要: Composites in the form of a three-dimensional framework or skeleton of ceic particles are formed by a low cost, low temperature sintering process which decomposes a pre-ceramic inorganic or organic precursor. Upon heating, preferably in air, the precursor decomposes to form a ceramic phase in the form of necks between the individual ceramic particles. The properties of the resulting porous ceramic bodies can be modified, such as toughened by impregnation with monomers, oligomers or polymers which are polymerized or cured in situ. Such composites find use as cosmetic products or protheses for humans and animals, such as dental restoratives and bone implants. Methods of fabrication are disclosed which include the use of a pre-ceramic polymer as a binder for the ceramic particles which forms the necks of material between the individual ceramic particles upon firing.

摘要: A bicycle transmission has a plurality of cone gears with multiple gear surfaces and a corresponding plurality of ratio-change assemblies for selecting one of the gear surfaces of each cone gear. One cone gear provides reductions of the input rotary speed while the other cone gears provide increases in the input rotary speed. The ratio-change assemblies include apparatus for moving its gear surface both vertically and horizontally. The transmission includes a telescopic pedal arm assembly for input power and torque. The telescopic pedal arm is driven between an extended position and a retracted position during each revolution so that the available torque increases in conjunction with available leg power.

摘要: Acid and base catalyst substances are employed in the photochemical process for collection and retrieval of solar energy wherein a lower energy level isomer (e.g. trans-isomer) of a photochemical isomerizable compound is exposed to solar energy of a wavelength providing a higher energy level isomer (e.g. cis-isomer) of this isomerizable compound and this higher energy level isomer subsequently is transformed to its lower energy level isomer with exothermic release of thermal energy for useful purposes. In this process the transforming or conversion of the higher energy level isomer to its lower energy level isomer is facilitated by the presence of and/or contacting with the acid or base catalyst substance. The employed catalytic acid, or base, or mixture of acids, or mixture of bases are characterized by being art accepted strong acids or strong bases under either the Bronsted or Lewis concepts of acids and bases in the fluid in which transformation to the lower energy level isomer is carried forth and also characterized as being compatible with the particular fluid and photoisomerizable compound with which they are employed. The employed acids or bases are useful in a diversity of amounts and a diversity of forms and configurations.
