摘要: A porous material suitable for implant is disclosed comprising a large plurality of substantially spherical intercalated hollows in a polymer. The hollows are formed by combining the polymer with a fugitive material under heat and pressure and subsequently removing the fugitive material to reveal the hollows. Intercalation can be increased by subjecting the fugitive material to a coalescing compacting process prior to combining the fugitive material with the polymer. The porous material can be combined with a solid material such as a solid polymer to fabricate complex implantable materials with a variety of features.

摘要: The present disclosure provides engineered tissue constructs having hepatocytes and stromal cells and methods of making and using the same (e.g., for treating acute liver failure, a urea cycle disorder, or hyperbilirubinemia (e.g., in a subject having Crigler-Najjar syndrome) in a human subject in need thereof). The engineered tissue constructs may provide a microenvironment that promotes the persistence of hepatocyte survival for at least three months.

摘要: Systems, methods, and devices for bony fusion are disclosed. A threaded cannulated implant may be inserted into a target space, such as in the sacroiliac joint. The implant may have a distal section, a proximal section, and a central section between the distal section and the proximal section. The distal section may comprise cutting threads and flutes for self-drilling the implant into bone. The proximal section may be configured to couple to an insertion instrument for the implant. The central section may have a lattice structure through which bone graft may flow to promote bone ingrowth. A solid core region may be located inwards from the lattice structure. The central section may also have openings through the core region to connect the lattice structure to the cannula.

摘要: Systems, methods, and devices include techniques for generating and using a demineralized bone matrix (DBM)-gelatin matrix allograft material. The DBM-gelatin material can be used to form an implant (e.g., for sternal closure operations) and/or a gel (e.g., for wound/fracture treatment). A method for forming the implant or bone graft can include forming the DBM from an initial bone material; and mixing, in a solution, the DBM with a gelatin carrier to form a DBM-gelatin solution. The gelatin carrier can include an animal-based collagen, such as a porcine-based collagen or a bovine-based collagen. Additionally, the method of forming the bone graft can include performing a crosslinking reaction with the DBM-gelatin solution. The implant can be packaged in a sterile hydration container prior to use.

摘要: Disclosed are adjustable accommodating intraocular lenses and methods of adjusting accommodating intraocular lenses post-operatively. In one embodiment, an adjustable accommodating intraocular lens comprises an optic portion and a peripheral portion. At least one of the optic portion and the peripheral portion can be made in part of a composite material comprising an energy absorbing constituent and a plurality of expandable components. At least one of a base power and a cylindricity of the optic portion can be configured to change in response to an external energy directed at the composite material.
