Abstract: Infusion systems including infusion devices and consumables and related operating methods are provided. An exemplary consumable component includes a housing, a reservoir contained within the housing, a pumping mechanism for dispensing a fluid from the reservoir, and a readable element associated with the housing. The readable element maintains calibration data characterizing a relationship between delivery of the fluid and actuation of the pumping mechanism.

Abstract: Infusion devices, systems, and related operating methods are provided. A method of detecting an occlusion in a fluid path involves a control module of an infusion device operating a driver module to provide energy to an actuation arrangement to achieve a commanded actuation state, wherein the actuation arrangement is coupled to a plunger configured to deliver fluid via the fluid path, obtaining a measured actuation state of the actuation arrangement via a sensing arrangement, and detecting an occlusion condition based on a relationship between the commanded actuation state and the measured actuation state.

Abstract: A medicine injection pen includes a body, a drive member, a cartridge housing, and a medicine cartridge retained within the cartridge housing. The drive member is configured to move relative to the body and the medicine cartridge defines an interior volume configured to retain a liquid medicine. The drive member is configured to translate a piston within the interior volume toward a dispensing end of the medicine cartridge to dispense at least some of the liquid medicine. The medicine cartridge also includes an insertion port configured to receive a medicine dispensing element therethrough for dispensing a liquid medicine into the interior volume to replace at least some of the liquid medicine dispensed through the dispensing end. Dispensing of the liquid medicine into the interior volume of the medicine cartridge applies a fluid pressure to the piston to translate the piston away from the dispensing end of the medicine cartridge.

Abstract: A method for automatically configuring a medical device with user-specific configuration data includes determining, by a first medical device, that the first medical device is being placed into service to provide medical therapy to a patient, wherein the first medical device is a replacement medical device for a second medical device that was previously placed into service to provide medical therapy to the patient in accordance with user-specific configuration data stored on the second medical device, communicating, by the first medical device, data indicative of the first medical device being placed into service, after communicating the data indicative of the first medical device being placed into service, obtaining, by the first medical device, the user-specific configuration data stored on the second medical device, and configuring, by the first medical device, the first medical device to provide therapy in accordance with the obtained user-specific configuration data.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for a connection interface between a reservoir or syringe, infusion set tubing, and an infusion pump is provided. The reservoir, a base and a cap are connected to form an integrated unit that is capable of being inserted and secured in an infusion pump housing. The cap and the infusion pump are each provided with at least one sensor or at least one detectable feature, arranged to interact with at least one corresponding detectable feature or sensor on the other of the cap and infusion pump device, to detect one or more of the presence, position or other characteristic of the cap when the cap is aligned or coupled with the infusion pump housing. The detectable feature and sensor may be magnetic, RF, mechanical, optical or any combination.

An exemplary apparatus for identifying an infusate in a conduit of an infusion device includes a transmitter element for transmitting a beam of energy for interaction with the infusate. Further, the apparatus includes a receiver element for receiving a signal from the beam of energy after interaction with the infusate. Also, the apparatus includes an identifier element coupled to the receiver element for analyzing the signal to identify the infusate. The transmitter element and receiver element may form a spectroscopy device and may transmit and receive a beam of infrared light or near infrared light.
