摘要: Access to resource(s) intended to be shared with specific groups of individuals is controlled using concise tests of shared knowledge instead of (or in addition) to accounts and access control lists. Users can readily learn the concept and choose questions that will control the access by the desired group with little effort. Such questions can be relatively secure to guesses by those not intended to have access, particularly if the number of allowed guesses is relatively limited. Users can generally predict the security of their questions, but sometimes underestimate the ability of attackers to use Web searching or enumeration to discover answers. In such cases, the system can automatically discover weak questions and then suggest alternatives. By lowering the threshold to access control, shared knowledge tests can enable more types of information to acquire collaborative value on the Internet and on other types of networks.

摘要: A seismic expansion joint cover assembly installed at a motion-absorbing gap between a member A on one side of the gap and a member B on the other side of the gap includes a cover panel spanning the gap and a hinge joining one edge A of the cover panel to the member A for pivotal movement about a pivot axis. The pivot axis is spaced apart from the expansion gap so as to enable a stop between member A and the cover panel to prevent the cover panel from pivoting about the pivot axis into the expansion gap upon widening of the expansion gap. A permanent magnet and magnet striker releasably secure the other edge B of the cover panel to the member B. A tensioned cable connected between the cover panel and one of the members A and B limits the pivoting movements of the cover panel and automatically recloses the cover panel over the gap.

摘要: A steering thruster for a vessel includes an oil-filled reversible submergible motor driving a reversible-thrust screw. The motor is mounted on a bracket structure at the stern of the vessel and is preferably suspended from a swim platform on the vessel transom. Power for operating the motor is derived from an on-board A.C. generator through an electrical control box which may be mounted on or near the transom and a manual operating switch which may be located in the vessel cockpit or the like. The thruster assembly, may be readily mounted without having to form holes through the hull of the vessel and without having to pull the vessel from the water. The steering package, comprising the thruster assembly, electrical control box and switch provides a convenient, moderate-cost accessory for enhancing the steering characteristics of vessels of up to about 75 feet in length.

摘要: A macerator/ejector pump within a waste material holding tank on a boat liquefies solid waste material in the tank and pumps the liquefied waste material through a discharge line adapted for connection to an on-shore waste collection system. The macerator/ejector pump comprises a pump and a plurality of cutter blades pitched to direct the liquefied waste to the intake port of the pump, the pump and the cutter blades being driven by a shaft connected to an electric motor mounted on the top of the holding tank. The holding tank may be discharged into the on-shore waste collection system without requiring a shore-based pump-out station. A plurality of rods extend into the holding tank for sensing the level of waste material, and a holding tank monitor displays this level by means of colored indicator lamps.

摘要: A system for treating human waste in remote or portable toilet facilities, including a holding tank that stores waste; a heat reservoir that receives waste from the holding tank, heats the waste to kill fecal coliform bacteria therein present, and routes the heated bacteria-free waste back through the holding tank. The holding tank maintains the heated bacteria-free waste separate from the contaminated waste but passes residual heat from the bacteria-free waste to the untreated waste. In one embodiment, a centrifuge receives the bacteria-free waste from the holding tank, separates the liquid waste from the solid waste, and discharges the liquid waste from the system. In one embodiment, the waste is pumped through the system to be heated in incremental portions.

摘要: A marine vessel waste treatment system includes a tank for receiving successive charges of liquid and solid waste material. A water conduit conducts heated water from the vessel's engine through the tank to heat the contents thereof above the level at which coliform bacteria can survive, thereby reducing the count of such bacteria to a level at which it is safe and acceptable to discharge the material into a waterway. A macerator pump is mounted in the tank for operation only after the temperature within the tank is sufficiently high. An electrically operated heating element is also mounted in the tank to accelerate the treatment of waste and can be used alone when desired. A thermal switch at the waste material input inhibits discharge if a fresh charge of material is received when the system is ready to discharge, thereby preventing discharge into the environment of untreated material.
