In one example the head mounted display device includes a light engine including an array of individually controllable pixels that can be energized to emit light. The example also includes an optical assembly physically aligned with the light engine and including a set of focusing elements facing toward the light engine and a different set of focusing elements facing away from the light engine.

Abstract: An optical data-storage system comprises a laser, an imaging optic, and associated computer logic. The laser is configured to emit a pulsed wavefront having uniform phase and polarization. The imaging optic is configured to modulate the phase and polarization of different portions of the wavefront by different amounts, and to diffract light from the different portions to a substrate with writeable optical properties. The logic is configured to receive data and to control modulation of the phase and polarization such that the light diffracted from the imaging optic writes the data to the substrate.

Abstract: The subject disclosure is directed towards a high resolution, high frame rate, robust stereo depth system. The system provides depth data in varying conditions based upon stereo matching of images, including actively illuminated IR images in some implementations. A clean IR or RGB image may be captured and used with any other captured images in some implementations. Clean IR images may be obtained by using a notch filter to filter out the active illumination pattern. IR stereo cameras, a projector, broad spectrum IR LEDs and one or more other cameras may be incorporated into a single device, which may also include image processing components to internally compute depth data in the device for subsequent output.

Abstract: This document relates to an optical device that uses adaptive optics as part of an optical system. The adaptive optics can be used to correct light rays that correspond to a portion of an eye box based on information received from an eye-tracking unit, and can also correct for aberrations in the optics in the optical device. The adaptive optics include corrective elements that can be modified using modifying elements to correct the angle of light rays, such that rays associated with a specific pupil position and gaze direction of a user's eye can be made parallel and ensure a high quality image is viewed by the user.

Abstract: A holographic display includes a pixel array including one or more pixels, a holographic data source, a drive array, and a light source. Each pixel includes a phase-modulating structure and an amplitude-modulating structure. The holographic data source is configured to supply a holographic drive signal. The holographic drive signal includes, for each pixel in each of a plurality of time-varying holographic image frames, a phase component defining phase modulation for the pixel and an amplitude component defining amplitude modulation for the pixel. The drive array is configured to, for each pixel in each holographic image frame, modulate the phase-modulating structure according to the phase component and modulate the amplitude-modulating structure according to the amplitude component. The light source is configured to output coherent light to illuminate the one or more pixels of the pixel array.

Abstract: A display includes a projector configured to provide light of a virtual image, a waveguide into which the light of the virtual image is injected at an injection angle by the projector, and a combiner disposed along the waveguide and configured to redirect the light of the virtual image. The waveguide is configured to emit the light at a point established by the injection angle. The combiner is further configured to allow ambient light from beyond the waveguide to pass through the combiner. The waveguide constrains the light of the virtual image through total internal reflection along a curved path for the light between the projector and the combiner.
