The compounds based on glyceric acid are both effective fabric conditioners and biodegradable, and may be formulated in any conventional physical form to form a fabric conditioning composition. A method of using the composition is also described.

The present invention relates to novel surfactants based on readily available materials, i.e., glyceric acid. In particular, it relates to novel N-alkylglyceramide surfactants having the formula ##STR1## wherein R is a C.sub.8 -C.sub.24 straight or branch-chained, saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon. These surfactants can be used in detergent compositions as surfactants together with cosurfactants to greatly enhance foam stability of the detergent compositions.

The data conversion circuit includes a transceiver that can receive a first data channel in a first or second data format and convert it into a second data channel having a third data format. The transceiver can also receive data from the second data channel in the third data format and convert it into the first data channel in the first or second data format. The data conversion circuit includes a bus interface that is connected to the transceiver. The bus interface transfers data between the transceiver and a bus control module. The data conversion circuit also includes an onboard controller interface that is connected to the bus interface.
