    摘要: The present invention is directed to compositions, particularly cosmetic compositions, in which the oil is thickened using at least one copolymer which has a hydrophobic functionality sufficient to provide at least partial solubility and optionally stability in oil and a hydrophilic functionality sufficient to provide thickening of the oil. Use of such copolymers as thickening agents are advantageous in that they are soluble and stable in the oil phase. Further, sufficient thickening may be accomplished using very low amounts of these copolymers without the use of additional polymeric thickeners.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to a low VOC, non-aerosol, polyacrylic acid containing hair cosmetic compositions which contain stabilized starches, particularly those derivatized by alkylene oxides, about 01.-0.0% polyacrylic acid, up to about 15% solvent, and water. The derivatized starch may be hydrolyzed, particularly enzymatically hydrolyzed by at least one endo-enzyme. In addition, the starch may be cationically modified with a low degree of substitution. Use of such starches is novel and advantageous in that they are compatible with polyacrylic acid, providing a clear, solution with a stable viscosity. Further, the resultant composition provides a clear film which is not tacky, good stiffness, and improved humidity resistance.

    摘要: Polysaccharide esters containing aldehyde and acetal groups having the structural formulas ##STR1## are prepared by reacting a polysaccharide, such as a starch, gum, or cellulose, with an acetal-containing reagent which contains a functional group reactive with the hydroxyl groups of the polysaccharide; Z is a multivalent organic group: A and A' are independently a lower alkyl or together form at least a 5-membered cyclic acetal; x is at least 1; and y is at least 1. When x is >1 the esters are crosslinked. Typical reagents for introducing the acetal group include 3,3-diethoxypropionyl guanidine (itself a novel compound) and 4-(methylaminoacetaldehyde dimethyl acetal)-4-oxo-butanoic acid). The derivatives are useful in conventional applications such as coatings, adhesives, paper additives and foodstuffs.
