摘要: The musical wireless alerting system includes several detectors (12) which transmit rf signals to a common receiver (14). The detectors (12) include manual switches thereon to allow manual selection of a song or melody. The selection is coded in the form of an audio code which is transmitted to the receiver (14). The receiver (14) detects any rf transmissions and verifies that the received transmissions are identifiable with the receiver (14). Upon verification, the receiver reads the audio code and compares same to a plurality of stored songs or tones within memory for transmission to a speaker which plays the tone or song. Each of the detectors (14) may sense different predefined conditions and indicate different audible indications to be played. The detectors may sense conditions such as opening of the door or depression of a door bell.

摘要: A vehicle central processing unit (CPU) (50) controls the power unit (16 or 18) to control the direction of movement of the carriage (12) of a lawn mower for determining the position of the lawn mower relative to locating stations (36, 38 and 40) in response to the time of movement from the counter (54) of the distance determining transmissions between the transceivers (42) at the locating stations (36, 38 and 40) and the lawn mower. The assembly is characterized by a generating circuit (60) for starting the counter (54) and generating a number of discrete subsignals to define each of the distance determining transmissions with each of the discrete subsignals being of equal velocity, a receiving circuit for stopping the counter (54) to store the number of the predetermined units for each of the subsignals, and an averaging circuit (64) for summing the number of the predetermined units for all of the subsignals in each of the distance determining transmissions and dividing by the number of the subsignals to provide the average number of the predetermined units to the central processing unit (CPU) (50) thereby providing a distance traveled time more accurate than the predetermined units. In other words and by way of example only, even though the counter (54) may only count in tenths, the averaged measurement may be in hundredths, i.e., a smaller division than the counter units.

摘要: An illumination level control device (10) is disclosed which sequentially reduces the illumination level of a multi-bulb lamp (12). The illumination level control device (10) incorporates two D flip-flops (38,40) configured in a master-slave relationship wherein the two D flip-flops (38,40) change their respective states when the clock (60) sends a positive-edge of the clock signal thereto. A portion (58) of the device (10) sets the two D flip-flops (38,40) when the wall switch (22) is off for more than a predetermined time. In the case of a three bulb (14,16,18) lamp (12), a zero state preventor (56) prevents all of the bulbs (14,16,18) from being turned off when the wall switch (22) is in the ON position. The zero state preventor (56) effectively eliminates the state wherein the outputs of both of the two D flip-flops (38,40) are low.

摘要: A method of controlling a computer (12) system (10) comprising the steps of: disposing a computer (12) in an operating space and placing the computer (12) in a lockout mode to prevent operation of the computer (12) software by a user. A database (26) of authorized user codes is compiled in the computer. A transponder (20) places a first authorized user code in the operating space and a transceiver (18) scans the operating space for the presence of a transponder transmitting an authorized user code and senses the presence of the first authorized user code in the operating space. A comparator (29) compares the first authorized user code to the database (26) for verification to unlock the computer (12) for use by the first authorized user in response to sensing the authorized user code in the operating space. The authorized user then is free to operate the computer software while the sensing for the presence of a transponder (20) transmitting an authorized user code in the operating space is continued. The computer (12) is relocked in the lockout mode at the termination of the first authorized user code by removing the transponder from the operating space and locking the software in a re-lockout operational status at the time of relocking to prevent operation of the computer (12) software by a user.

摘要: A method and system (10) for directing relief to individuals (11) requiring emergency assistance includes each individual in a building (20) carrying a respective transponder (12). The transponders transmit a wireless emergency signal in response to actuation by an individual. A communication link (22) such as a local area network (LAN) runs throughout the building. Transceivers (14) located at known locations are connected to the link. Each transceiver has a unique identification and wirelessly receives an emergency signal transmitted by a transponder located within the vicinity of the transceiver. Each transceiver transmits the received emergency signal along with the unique transceiver identification to a controller (16) via the link. The controller processes a received emergency signal to determine the location of the individual requiring emergency assistance based on the unique identifications of the transceivers transmitting the emergency signal. The controller directs relief (19) to the determined location of the individual.

摘要: According to the present invention, a relatively straightforward, cost-effective technique for eliminating and/or reducing inaccuracies, such as amplitude induced timing errors, is provided in a pulse detection system without reducing bandwidth or degrading the signal-to-noise ratio. Exemplary embodiments detect a change in polarity of slope in a pulse of received energy to provide accurate pulse detection in the presence of noise, without degrading signal-to-noise ratio. Exemplary embodiments can create a time-invariant pulse from a single received, amplitude variant pulse, wherein a rising edge of the detected pulse is coincident with a change in a polarity of slope of the received pulse. Thus, a repetitive pulse signal is not needed to provide accurate pulse detection. Further, exemplary embodiments eliminate any need for complex circuitry since, for example, they are based on using cost-effective differentiators and do not require a reset signal to be asserted between pulses. In addition, exemplary embodiments do not strip the pulse-width information from the received signal, but rather can produce an output pulse which is proportional in width to the received pulse.
