Abstract: A photovoltaic cell device is disclosed. The device comprises: an active region having a plurality of spaced-apart elongated nanostructures aligned vertically with respect to an electrically conductive substrate, wherein each elongated nanostructure has at least one p-n junction characterized by a bandgap within the electromagnetic spectrum, and is coated by an electrically conductive layer being electrically isolated from the substrate.
