The N-alkyl-substituted aminoalkyne have a wide variety of uses including their use as precursors for pharmaceuticals, their use in electroplating processes and their use as corrosion inhibitors.

In particular, the reaction is carried out at superatmospheric pressure, and the spent acetylenic hydrocarbon is replenished during the reaction while maintaining a pressure which is constant during the entire reaction.
