Novel, quick, and reliable detection methods for determining the presence and/or authenticity of optical and/or audio disc articles (such as compact discs, digital video discs, CD-ROM discs, and the like) when present within a holding container are provided. Specific methods of utilizing particular transparent cases are encompassed within this invention. Specific methods of utilizing particular transparent cases are thus also encompassed within this invention as are navel storage unit configurations to maximize the benefits of the transparent properties thereof.

Novel optical disc storage units comprising transparent polypropylene are provided. Such storage units exhibit sufficient impact resistance to protect the target disc and sufficient clarity that any informational literature may be placed entirely within the storage unit and easily viewed and read through the walls thereof without impediment. Furthermore, the target storage unit must also include a spine section of sufficient width to permit a section of the informational literature to be placed internally thereon and viewed and easily read (such as, for example, the title and accompanying language describing the target disc placed therein) substantially without impediment as well. Additionally, provided therein are novel insert trays that simultaneously permit proper placement of such internally placed informational literature against the internal portion of the aforementioned walls, and particularly the spine portion, as well as provide antitheft properties. Such insert trays are designed to encompass any discs placed therein to the extent that such discs cannot exit such trays when the container is in closed position without breaking the disc itself. Specific novel storage units, in addition to these necessarily transparent walls and spine portions, are also possible to maximize the benefits of the transparent properties thereof.

Novel, quick, and reliable detection methods for determining the authenticity of optical and/or audio disc articles (such as compact discs, digital video discs, CD-ROM discs, and the like) are provided. Such a method basically entails the incorporation of an identifier or marking means within the edges of target optical discs or within any other portion of a target disc such that exposure to non-visible light sources will provide the desired identification upon irradiation or detection of the marking means therein. Such an identifier or marking agent thus may be utilized in conjunction with a transparent holding case whereby the needed light source may be exposed through the transparent walls thereof to permit detection of counterfeit or authentic discs without requiring opening of the case itself. Such a method may also be utilized for discs that are removed from or have not been placed and sealed within such a case as well. Specific methods of utilizing particular transparent cases are thus also encompassed within this invention. Specific methods of utilizing particular transparent cases are thus also encompassed within this invention as are novel storage unit configurations to maximize the benefits of the transparent properties thereof.

The two stage production of clear, low-haze, injection stretch blow molded polypropylene container articles is disclosed. In the first processing stage, a preform article is manufactured on an injection molding machine. In a second and subsequent step, which may occur remotely from apparatus used in the first step, the preform article is heated and stretch blown into a container. The process may employ the selection of processing parameters to produce preform articles that facilitate stretch blow molding at relatively high rates of speed, while still maintaining an appropriate polypropylene polymer morphology that results in clear, low haze containers.
