摘要: The invention relates to an apparatus and method for testing the properties of chemicals in a reaction flow stream. In the method, chemicals from the reaction flow stream are directed to the apparatus for testing the physical properties of the chemicals, which is an indication of the state of the chemical reaction. Data measured by the apparatus is stored in a computer, and the computer may be used to analyze the data and to control the reaction parameters based on the analysis of the data. The apparatus used for the analysis comprises a rheometer having an actuated shaft and a concentric container, wherein the shear properties of the material sampled in the apparatus are measured when the actuator shaft is oscillated within the container. Various unique configurations of the apparatus are described.

摘要: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for injecting material into a substrate. The apparatus 10 comprises a needle assembly having a needle 14, a movable central portion 26 and a substantially stationary top portion 26. The material to be injected 17 is threaded through apparatus 10 into needle 14, and is cut to the desired length by cutter 18. When needle 14 penetrates a substrate, an additional portion of material 17 is fed into the apparatus 10, and when needle 14 is removed from substrate 12, the additional material pushes into needle 14, forcing cut portion 16 to remain in the substrate. In the method of using the apparatus, additional steps for orienting the angle of the apparatus, and steps of controlling the concentration of the injected material in the substrate may be included.

摘要: A cascading orifice mixer for mixing a viscoelastic material comprising a plurality of chambers connected in series, including a first chamber, at least one intermediate chamber and a last chamber, each chamber including an orifice providing fluid communication between adjacent chambers thereby defining a substantially unidirectional sequential flow path through the chambers is disclosed. Each chamber has a variable volume ranging from a minimum volume to a maximum volume and the chambers are adapted to transport the viscoelastic material along the sequential flow path by transporting the viscoelastic material from a filled chamber containing a quantity of the viscoelastic material to a next adjacent empty chamber wherein the filled chamber and the next adjacent chamber are each at or near the maximum volume for the respective chamber. The volume in the filled chambers is reduced to the minimum volume thereby forcing the viscoelastic material through the respective filled chamber orifice and into the next adjacent chamber. The process for mixing a viscoelastic material utilizing a cascading orifice mixer is also described.

摘要: An extensional rheometer comprises a rotatable primary wind up drum and one or more secondary rotatable windup drums wherein a sample is attached to the primary windup drum and each secondary windup drum. Counter rotation of the primary windup drum and each secondary drum causes each affixed sample to stretch until rupture. The load response on each primary and secondary windup drum set caused by a stretching sample is measured with a load sensing device. Environmental control may be provided for testing samples under different conditions.
