摘要: Paper coating formulations having a reduced level of binder and processes for their manufacture are disclosed. Specifically, the paper coating formulations comprise a paper coating pigment and a binder. The binder comprises a strongly associated adhesive material that can bind to the other components, such as pigments, that is less prone to depletion from paper coating formulations into a paper web during use.

摘要: An enclosure assembly for a camera is designed to be mounted on the frame of an optical inspection apparatus for scanning the profile of a surface of an article moving along a travel path axis, the profile being associated with a reference axis orthogonal to a reference plane parallel to the travel path axis. The camera is part of a profile sensor unit and has an optical sensing field directed toward the travel path axis to define a scanning zone associated with the surface as intersected by the optical sensing field, the profile unit further having a laser source directing at angle with the optical sensing field a fan-shaped laser beam toward the scanning zone to define an associated scanning plane transverse to the travel path axis, to generate sensor output data related the profile of the article surface. The enclosure assembly comprises an enclosure body secured to the apparatus frame and including a front end wall provided with an opening protected by an optical element made of light transparent material, and a device for mounting the camera within the enclosure body such that the camera has its optical sensing field directed toward the opening. The enclosure assembly further comprises a device mechanically coupled to the enclosure body for displacing thereof in a direction perpendicular to the profile reference axis and parallel to the scanning plane to adjust the position of the optical sensing field with respect to the scanning plane.

摘要: A method and system for detecting and controlling the quality of debarking at the surface of a wooden log provide information on main parameters related to the debarking quality of the log surface, including fiber loss and residual bark. The debarking quality detecting method and system involve measurement of three-dimensional profile of at least a portion of the log surface to generate corresponding profile image data, which is processed to generate data indicative of the texture of the log surface. The texture data is then analyzed to generate resulting data on the debarking quality parameters. That quality indicative information can be generated on a continuous basis to provide an objective assessment of the quality performance in real-time in view of target productivity, and may then be used to perform optimal adjustments of the debarker operating parameters, either manually by the operator or automatically through feedback control.

摘要: A method and a device for measuring the fibre orientation anisotropy in a fibrous structure such as a sheet of paper or a textile. According to this method, a linearly polarized, far infrared laser beam is directed towards one side of the fibrous structure whose fibre orientation anisotropy is to be measured. The incident energy of the laser beam is measured before this beam traverses the fibrous structure, and its transmitted energy is measured on the other side of the fibrous structure. The transmission coefficient T of the laser beam is determined in at least two different orientations of the polarization plane of the beam with respect to the fibrous structure, this coefficient T being the ratio of the transmitted-to-incident energies. This coefficient T varies exponentially with the basis weight of the fibrous structure and the ratio .alpha. of the absorption coefficients that can be derived from two measurements of coefficient T in two different orientations of the polarized beam, gives a quantitative evaluation of the amount of fibre orientation anisotropy, the value of this ratio .alpha. be equal to 1 when no anisotropy is present in the fibrous structure.

摘要: A portable electronic data acquisition and transmission system for use with a plurality of wireless transmitters and universal operators used with selected residential barrier operators includes a data monitor having a monitor controller connected to a monitor receiver, a display, a monitor memory unit, a monitor communications port, and an input interface. The data monitor is able to learn and store a plurality of transmitter identification codes associated with one or more wireless transmitters. Once the identification codes are stored in the data monitor, the identification codes can be manipulated and transferred to one or more universal operators, thus enabling the specific transmitters having the associated identification codes to control the universal operator.

摘要: A method for a bank to obtain an electronically-stored financial document is disclosed. The financial document includes a specific document parameter, such as a record date. The bank maintains the financial document in an off-site storage system when the record date is later than a pre-selected date and in an on-site storage system when the record date is earlier than or equal to the pre-selected date. The off-site storage system is remotely-located from the on-site storage system. The bank receives a request for the financial document from a client and compares the record date to the pre-selected date to determine if the record date is later than, earlier than, or equal to the pre-selected date. In processing the request, the bank utilizes a computer terminal connected to the off-site and on-site storage systems to access one of the storage systems in response to the comparison of the record date to the pre-selected date. After accessing the appropriate storage system, the bank inputs data into the computer terminal to identify the requested financial document and then retrieves the requested financial document. The bank then reproduces the requested financial document and distributes the requested financial document to the requesting client, or some other end user of the bank.

摘要: A ratcheting tool has a handle mounted on a ratchet housing. The ratchet housing has a blind axial bore formed therein. A driven shank has a rearward portion nested partially in the bore, and a ratchet is formed externally on the rearward portion of the shank. A cam is seated in the bore, rearwardly of the ratchet, and is pivotable substantially about the axis of the bore. The cam has a bore formed therein, and a thrust ball is seated in the cam bore axially between the bottom of the blind axial bore in the ratchet housing and the rearward portion of the shank, thereby accommodating axial thrust loads on the tool. A selector pin is carried by the cam and extends radially therefrom through an arcuate slot in the ratchet housing. A pair of L-shaped pawls are alternately actuated by the cam. The pawls have respective leg portions extending forwardly to engage the ratchet, thereby alternately keying the ratchet to the ratchet housing. The cam has a three-position detented connection with the ratchet housing, thereby establishing clockwise and counterclockwise ratchet drive positions and an intermediate locked position, respectively. A knurled spinner is rotatably piloted on the ratchet housing for optional manual use, and the spinner is suitably keyed to a intermediate portion of the shank.

摘要: A system and method for optimizing a process for refining lignocellulosic granular matter such as wood chips use a predictive model including a simulation model based on relations involving a plurality of matter properties characterizing the matter such as moisture content, density, light reflection or granular matter size, refining process operating parameters such as transfer screw speed, dilution flow, hydraulic pressure, plate gaps, or retention delays, at least one output controlled to a target such as primary motor load or pulp freeness, and at least one uncontrolled output such as specific energy consumption, energy split, long fibers, fines and shives. An adaptor is fed with measured values of matter properties and measured values of controlled and uncontrolled outputs, to adapt the simulation model accordingly. An optimizer generates a value of the target according to a predetermined condition on a predicted uncontrolled output parameter and to one or more process constraints.
