    Abstract: Disclosed embodiments include apparatuses, vehicles, and methods for providing a frame insert insertable between sections of a structural frame to provide lateral stiffness to resist deformation of the structural frame. In an illustrative embodiment, an apparatus includes a frame insert configured to be received between sections of a structural frame. The frame insert includes a body of extruded material having opposing ends. Each of the opposing ends is configured to engage an inner face of one of the sections of the structural frame. A plurality of transverse ribs extends between the opposing ends. The plurality of transverse ribs is configured to provide support to the structural frame.

    Abstract: An apparatus can include a body having a plurality of walls dividing the body into a plurality of sections along a height of the body. A first wall and an opposing second wall can define a section of the plurality of sections. A middle portion of the first wall can be disposed closer to the second wall in a first direction than an end portion of the first wall. The first wall and the second wall can move towards each other in the first direction in response to a force applied on the body in a second direction.

    Abstract: Disclosed embodiments include apparatuses, vehicles, and methods for a displaceable tow hook. In an illustrative embodiment, an apparatus includes a tow hook configured to extend from a surface of a vehicle in a first direction. The tow hook includes a receiving section configured to receive a towing line and a securing section configured to extend away from the receiving section. A positioning mount is configured to secure the tow hook to the surface of the vehicle and to release the tow hook in response to an impinging force on the tow hook in excess of a predetermined threshold. A load-bearing structure is configured to mechanically connect the securing section to a structural component of the vehicle. The tow hook and the load-bearing structure are configured to support a force having a component in the first direction that is at least equal to the towing weight of the vehicle.

The structure, when under load, is configured to apply a lateral force on an end of the crossmember to cause lateral displacement of the vehicle.     Abstract: A vehicle includes a body structure having an occupant compartment, and a frame structure having a chassis. The body structure and the frame structure are fastened together using a plurality of fasteners and an adhesive. To illustrate, the plurality of fasteners may include 20, 50, 70, or more fasteners. The adhesive is arranged at one or more positions along the interface between the body structure to the frame structure. The plurality of fasteners extend beyond the wheel wells, and provide hard mounts between the body structure and frame structure. The adhesive helps to prevent stress concentrations by extending the locations of load transfer between the body structure and the frame structure. Body panels are added before or after the body structure is affixed to the frame structure.

    Abstract: A system for managing wheel kinematics during a small overlap collision event includes a deflector apparatus. The deflector is configured to direct a wheel away from an occupant compartment of a vehicle. The deflector includes a first section arranged at an inside wall of a wheel well facing a wheel, near the base of a hinge-pillar. The first section includes a hollow structure configured to absorb energy from the collision event by plastically deforming. The deflector also includes a second section arranged at an angle to the wheel and configured to deflect the wheel laterally outwards from the vehicle away from an occupant compartment during the small overlap collision event. The deflector may be formed of extruded aluminum. The system may include an absorber arranged behind the first section and configured to further absorb energy from the collision event by plastically deforming.
