摘要: Drawers or briefs made from a knitted tube flattened to provide a front panel and a rear panel with a top waist opening and a pair of bottom leg openings. The front panel has a linear fly opening having a pair of fabric fly flaps coextensive in length with the fly opening. The flaps overlap each other and the front panel on the interior of the garment at one side of the fly opening, providing a triple layer of fabric along the full length of the fly opening. The layers are sewn together by two lines of stitching extending along the tops and bottoms of said flaps, leaving a free edge on each flap remote from said fly opening. The flaps form a transversely open tunnel extending from the fly opening to the free edges of said flaps, and a pocket closed at the fly opening. The method of fashioning the fly opening entails applying a patch to the outside of the knitted tube, cutting through the patch and the tube to form the fly opening and two flaps, and then simultaneously sewing the flaps to the tube along the length of the opening. The flaps are everted through the fly opening and then are sewn to the interior side of the tube to fashion the fly assembly.

摘要: A method and apparatus for the measurement of thermal conductivity combines the following capabilities: 1) measurements of very small specimens; 2) measurements of specimens with thermal conductivity on the same order of that as air; and, 3) the ability to use air as a reference material. Care is taken to ensure that the heat flow through the test specimen is essentially one-dimensional. No attempt is made to use heated guards to minimize the flow of heat from the hot plate to the surroundings. Results indicate that since large correction factors must be applied to account for guard imperfections when specimen dimensions are small, simply measuring and correcting for heat from the heater disc that does not flow into the specimen is preferable.

摘要: A high-efficiency motor/pump system (20) for jetted baths/spas includes a pump assembly (22) removably secured to a motor assembly (24). The motor assembly (24) includes a motor (26) having a conventional laminated stator (30), a front housing (32) at the forward end of the motor (26), a rear housing (34) at the back end of the motor (26), and a ventilation plate (36) at the end of the rear housing (34). An armature-mounted internal fan (104) draws ambient air through openings in a ventilation plate (36) and forces the air through annular channels (80) in the rear housing (34) to effect cooling of the motor (26). The motor (26) is of the permanent split-capacitor type to eliminate the centrifugal switch commonly used in capacitor-start induction motors to thereby improve reliability. Additionally, telescoping structures on the forward end of the motor assembly and the rearward end of the pump assembly facilitate self-aligning assembly of the components.

摘要: A system for injecting DNA-based medications into humans is provided by the present invention. The system includes a needle-free injector with an injection orifice of approximately 0.004 inches for supplying DNA-based medication at an initial pressure of from 3900 to 4300 psi, and then immediately declining to a level of about 2800 to 3800 psi, and then immediately cutting off pressure to terminate the injection. The injector includes an annular adapter for spacing the injection orifice from the skin of the patient. The adapter includes an abutment against which the injector is disposed so that the orifice is spaced approximately 0.76-1.0 inch from the skin of the patient, the adapter having an inner diameter at the distal end of approximately 0.50-0.70 inches.

摘要: A method or forming binderless clad powders using a high energy ball mill, preferably an attritor-type ball mill, is described. The binderless clad powders are formed by combining and processing a core material powder and a coating material (either a powder with significantly smaller particle size than the core material powder or a brittle material that will quickly form a powder with significantly smaller particle size than the core material powder) in a high energy ball mill for a relatively short time (generally less than one hour). The processing time employed is such that the particle size of the core material powder is not significantly reduced but that the clad powders are formed. At least one of the two materials (i.e., core forming material or coating forming material) must be deformable within the high energy ball mill. Such binderless clad powders are suitable for use as thermal spray powders and which can be thermally sprayed to form coatings on a various substrates.

摘要: A connector backshell assembly is provided for strain relief mounting to an electrical cable. The assembly includes a backshell having forward and rearward ends and an axially extending cable-receiving aperture therethrough. A toroidally configured, radially compressible strain relief coil spring surrounds the cable and is disposed near the rearward end of the backshell. A compression nut is engageable with the backshell for selective rotational and axial movement relative thereto. The compression nut includes a forwardly facing concave cam surface for engaging and radially compressing the coil spring into strain relief engagement with the cable. An interference surface is operatively associated with the backshell and non-rotatably engageable with the strain relief coil spring to prevent rotation of the coil spring with the compression nut relative to the backshell.

摘要: A method for forming an abradable composite material and the material so formed. A filler is fed axially into a stream of high-temperature combustion gases such that the filler is entrained in the gaseous stream. The gaseous stream containing the filler is then used to atomize the molten tip of a metal wire which is continuously fed into the gaseous stream. The resultant gaseous stream which contains both the filler and the atomized molten metal is directed to the surface of a target. The filler and the molten metal impact the target and combine to form a substantially continuous metal matrix in which the interstices are filled by the filler. The composite material abrades readily upon frictional contact with a moving part.

摘要: A method for preshrinking tubular knit fabrics in which the fabric is treated as a continuous length in tubular form. The elongated tube is continuously fed lengthwise into a series of liquid baths which include a wetting agent, scouring and washing constituents and rinses and any finish is to be applied to the fabric. The fabric tube is caused to advance into and through the bath in a substantially tensionless state by pushing the fabric into the flow of liquid and through the bath to avoid applying substantial tension. From the washing and rinsing baths, the saturated fabric is flattened, again without application of substantial tension, and is fed through a two-stage dryer. In the initial stage, the fabric is air-dried to a moisture content of substantially less than 40%. Before introducing the fabric into the second stage of the dryer, the moisture content is raised, for example in a steam atmosphere, to substantially 40%. The final drying is performed in multiple steps to assure uniform treatment of the fabric throughout its length to ultimately reduce the moisture content in the fabric to less than 8%. The illustrated combination of apparatus for accomplishing the fabric treatment includes a relaxing and washing washing range, for the liquid treatment of the fabric, a padding apparatus for the flattening of the fabric while saturated, a drum-type air dryer for air-drying the fabric in the first stage, a steam chest intermediate stage in advance of the final dryer stage, and a tumble-type compartmentalized continuous length dryer in the final stage.
