Abstract:
Minicells are used to deliver biologically active compounds including radioisotopes, polypeptides, nucleic acids, small molecules, drug molecules, and chemotherapeutic agents. In some cases, the minicell displays ligands or binding moieties that target the minicell to a desired host cell.
Abstract:
An apparatus designed to form syn gas from carbonaceous materials such as coal includes a devolatilization reactor in combination with a reformer reactor which subsequently forms syn gas. The reformer reactor, in turn, is in communication with a particulate separator. The devolatilization reactor is fed with material using a compression feeder which drives air from the feed material, compresses it in a feed zone forming a seal between the feed hopper and the devolatilization reactor. The reformer reactor, as well as the particulate separators, are maintained in a heated furnace so that the temperature of the formed syn gas does not decrease below the reaction temperature until particulate material has been separated.
Abstract:
The hydraulic operated surface pumping unit of this invention is a counterbalanced cross beam type pumping unit driven by a hydraulic cylinder. The pumping unit can be operated in a first mode of equal upstroke and down stroke speeds or in a second mode of slower upstroke and faster down stroke speeds. The stroke lengths are controlled by cams and are adjustable over a large range. Stroke cycle speeds can be varied by adjusting the output rate of a hydraulic pump used to drive the system. The main hydraulic valve includes intermediate lock positions to hold the pumping unit steady during phase shifts between upstrokes and down strokes and during shut down of the pumping unit. Pressure indicators are provided for optimum counterbalancing of the pumping unit, and a needle valve control for return fluid flow to tank is provided for slow let down of the pump rod for initial tag out settings. A combination oil tank and cooling unit has an overflow bypass to insure the hydraulic pump is not starved of hydraulic fluid in cold weather start up.
Abstract:
A system and a method for continuously separating carbon dioxide from gas mixtures, utilizing a continuous loop of porous monoliths which support a sorbent within its pores. Continuously exposing a portion of the continuous loop of monoliths to a flow of gas mixture containing a minor proportion of carbon dioxide, to adsorb carbon dioxide from the flow. The loop passes through a sealed regeneration and carbon dioxide capture assembly located astride a portion of the loop, and which is capable of sealingly containing a monolith in relative movement through the assembly. The assembly chamber comprises a plurality of separately sealed zones, including at least one zone for purging oxygen from the monoliths, -a subsequent zone for heating the monolith to release the adsorbed carbon dioxide, and another cooling zone for cooling the monolith prior to reentering the adsorption portion of the loop where it is exposed to oxygen.
