This invention relates to a provided explosion induced G-force absorbtion apparatus for reducing the G-force imparted on a vehicle occupant below that of the vehicle, the G-force absorbtion apparatus comprising: a first mounting member attached to the vehicle; a second mounting member attached to the occupant's seat; an absorbtion mechanism attached between the first and second mounting members, wherein the absorption mechanism comprises at least a mitigating strip provided on one of the mounting members and an anvil provided on the other of the mounting members such that when the vehicle, and hence the first mounting member, is subjected to an explosion induced G-force, the mitigating strip is pulled over the anvil. As it does this is it inherently must simultaneously bend. This bending action requires energy which is received from the relative movement of the seat and the frame thereby absorbing a portion of the G-force in order to reduce the G-force experienced at the second mounting member and hence the occupant's seat.

An optical micro sensor (1) for measuring one or more environmental parameters, such as pressure and temperature, through the modification of incident radiation. The sensor (1) is fabricated using MEMS technology and is adapted to receive an optical fibre (40) which communicates radiation to and from the micro sensor (1). The sensor (1) has an environmentally-sensitive element (4) which modifies the incident radiation communicated by the optical fibre (40). The modified radiation is communicated back along the optical fibre (40) and provides information regarding the environmental conditions surrounding the sensor (1). The pressure sensor is provided with a Fabry Perot cavity (3) in a first surface of a silicon wafer (2). The cavity is covered by a reflector at the environmentally-sensitive element (4). The diameter of the channel (7) holding the optical fibre (40) is greater than the diameter of the cavity. (3). The temperature sensor is provided with luminescent material at the element (4). Also, a method of securing an optical fibre to a silicon block is claimed.

The process starts by taking separate, e.g., rod and cap, forgings and coining or forging them together prior to machining. The mating surfaces of the forgings are formed with a ridge-groove or a dimple/lug-recess configuration giving them a self-locating ability. After machining, the forgings are fractured along the original division to obtain two uniquely matched surfaces that need no further processing before being reassembled, e.g., to form a connecting rod for an internal combustion engine.

A lightweight shaft configured for use as a golf club shaft or a composite golf club equipped with such a shaft. The uniqueness of this shaft is that it is made of two distinct composite walls (tubes, one tube within another) with a greater density than, and separated by, an expansive middle layer of lesser density material which expands with the application of heat during the composite curing cycle. Additionally, the tip of the shaft (one to six inches in length from the tip, or longer, as required by design) is to be made of solid material (composite, metal or other material). The addition of this solid tip to the shaft as called for in this invention, provides for a stronger and solid tip that can be adjusted to fit into the hosel openings of any club head. This goes to provide a much stronger joining of the head to the shaft and adds to the clubs impact with the golf ball thus providing for greater travel distance of the ball.
