The present invention provides aqueous compositions useful as zero VOC coating compositions having a % opacifying pigment volume concentration (% OPVC) of from 2 to 25 and comprising (i) an opacifier composition of an at least partially polymer encapsulated opacifying pigment, a polymer opacifying pigment composite or their mixtures, with the opacifying pigment, encapsulated in and/or as a composite with at least one soft polymer having a measured glass transition temperature (measured Tg) of 5° C. or less, and (ii) a hard binder polymer having a measured Tg of at least 30° C. and a weight average particle size of 120 nm or less, wherein the ratio of the weight average particle size of the opacifier composition to that of the hard binder polymer is from 2:1 to 12:1 and the volume ratio of the opacifying pigment to the soft polymer solids in the opacifier composition is from 2:5 to 1:1

The instant invention is an aqueous based blend composition and method of producing the same. The aqueous based blend composition according to the present invention comprises: (a) an aqueous polyolefin dispersion comprising the melt blending product of one or more base polymers and one or more stabilizing agents in the presence of water and optionally one or more neutralizing agents, wherein the polyolefin dispersion has an average volume particle size diameter in the range of from 400 to 1500 nm, and a pH range from 8 to 11; and (b) one or more crosslinking agents selected from the group consisting of phenol-formaldehyde resins, hydroxyalkylamide resins, amino-formaldehyde resins; epoxy group containing resins, and combinations thereof, wherein said crosslinking agents comprise form 0.1 to 50 percent by weight based on the solid content of the dispersion; wherein said aqueous based blend composition has a solid content in the range of from 15 to 70 percent by weight of solids, based on the weight of the aqueous based blend composition, wherein said solid content of said blend composition comprises up to 99.9 percent by weight of the one or more base polymers, based on the weight of the solid content of the aqueous based blend composition, based on the weight of the solid content of the aqueous based blend composition, and a pH in the range of from 8 to 11.

The present invention provides aqueous compositions for use in coating wood joinery, especially for exterior use, comprising (a) one or more dihydrazide compounds in a total amount of from 0.5 to 4 wt. %, based on the total weight of composition solids and (b) of one or more aqueous multistage emulsion copolymers containing, as (i) a first stage, an emulsion copolymer having a glass transition temperature (Tg) via differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) of from −50 to 30° C., and containing, in copolymerized form one or more monoethylenically unsaturated phosphorous acid monomers and, one or more keto group containing amide monomers, and, as (ii) a second stage, an emulsion copolymer having a DSC Tg of at least 50° C. to 125° C., wherein the weight ratio of (i) the first stage to (ii) the second stage, based on copolymer solids, ranging from 50:50 to 90:10.
