摘要:
Styrene is homopolymerized or copolymerized with alpha methyl styrene, preferably in the presence of limonene, with or without t-butyl styrene, using zirconium tetrachloride as the catalyst. The light colored resins formed are useful as drying cleaning sizing agents and in hot melt adhesives.

1,170,989. Laminates and laminating. SCHENECTADY CHEMICALS Inc. 27 Oct., 1967 [27 Oct., 1966], No. 49038/67. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions B7 and C3] Layers of synthetic rubber may be bonded together using as tackifier a thermoplastic resin prepared from an aldehyde and an aryl borate. Both rubber layers may be unvulcanized and contain a vulcanizing agent or one may be vulcanized as in retreading a tyre. In Example 1 the tackifier is contained in a cement also comprising a rubber formulation and a solvent. In Example 2 the tackifier is incorporated into the rubber layers. In both cases the rubber is vulcanized as the bond is made. Rubber formulation employed in the examples comprise either (A) an ethylene - propylene - cyclopentadiene rubber or (B) an ethylene - propylene - hexa - 1,4-diene compounded with carbon black, an aromatic oil, zinc oxide, stearic acid, mercaptobenzthiazole, tetramethylthiuram monosulphide and sulphur. Tackifiers used are derived from the borates of p-tert.-butylphenol, p-tert.- octylphenol, p-cresol, p-tert.-amylphenol, pdodecylphenol and/or styrylphenol and paraformaldehyde or benzaldehyde.
