    Abstract: A motor vehicle electric motor assembly includes a motor housing having an annular wall extending from a housing first end to an opposite housing second end about a central axis to bound a cavity. The housing first end has a base configured to support a bearing housing. A motor shaft extends along the central axis between a shaft first end and a shaft second end. A rotor is fixed to the shaft for rotation about the central axis. A stator is supported by the annular wall in radially spaced relation from the rotor. A bearing is fixed in the bearing housing to support the shaft first end for rotation about the central axis. An end cover assembly is fixed to the housing second end. The end cover assembly has a motor shaft opening with a periphery of the motor shaft opening supporting the shaft second end for rotation about the central axis.

The position measurement system further includes a worm in meshed engagement with the worm gear, the worm driven by a motor. The position measurement system yet further includes a first sensor operatively coupled to the worm to detect an angular position of the worm and the motor that drives the worm. The position measurement system also includes a driving gear coupled to the steering shaft. The position measurement system further includes a spur gear in meshed engagement with the driving gear.     Abstract: An electric power steering system includes a mechanical linkage, first and second wheels, an electric motor, first and second speed sensors, and an electronic control unit. The linkage includes a steering column and a rack operatively engaged to the steering column. The first and second wheels are rotationally engaged to opposite ends of the rack. The motor is operatively attached to the linkage for providing steering assistance. The first and second speed sensors are configured to detect rotation speed of the respective first and second wheels. The unit is configured to receive first and second rotational speed signals from the respective first and second speed sensors, and calculate a first rotational speed differential between the first and second wheels to facilitate an estimation of a steering column angular position for controlling the electric motor.

The method may also include receiving, from a domain controller at the electronic power steering controller, a second autonomous steering command and comparing, by the electronic power steering controller, the first autonomous steering command and the second autonomous steering command. The method may also include selectively controlling, by the electronic power steering controller, the electronic power steering system using one of the first autonomous steering command and the second autonomous steering command, based on the comparison of the first autonomous steering command and the second autonomous steering command.

    Abstract: Technical solutions for a motor assembly for an electric power steering system are provided. The motor assembly comprises a motor configured to rotate a motor shaft to apply a drive torque to an output shaft of a steering column. The motor assembly also comprises a circuit card assembly including a torque and angle sensor disposed upon a printed circuit board and configured to measure a differential angle between rotational positions of the output shaft and an input shaft. The printed circuit board of the circuit card assembly is disposed perpendicular to a rotational axis of the steering column. The motor assembly also comprises an enclosure coupled to the motor and containing the circuit card assembly and a worm shaft coupled to rotate with the motor shaft and having a worm disposed helically thereabout for driving a worm gear coupled to the output shaft.
