    Abstract: Disclosed are a broadcast receiver and a method thereof, in which channels are automatically scanned. The broadcast receiver includes: a signal receiver configured to receive a broadcasting signal of one frequency band among a plurality of frequency bands; and a controller configured to determine presence or absence of a corresponding broadcasting signal for each of the plurality of frequency bands by checking properties of each of the plurality of frequency bands, and control a channel scanning operation to be performed. The controller controls the signal receiver not to perform the channel scanning operation with regard to one or more frequency bands, in which it is determined that the corresponding broadcasting signal is absent.
