摘要: A system and associated methodology allow for monitoring ocular parameters of a patient. Parameters that may be monitored in this regard include ocular perfusion, retinal oxygen saturation and ocular pressure. In one implementation, a device for monitoring the desired parameters includes a contact lens with fiber optic pathways mounted thereon. Light of multiple wavelengths can be transmitted into the patient's eyes via input optical pathways. Output optical pathways are associated with a camera for obtaining images of an area of interest within the patient's eyes. The images can be processed to obtain information regarding ocular perfusion and/or oxygen saturation. Changes in this regard can be used to identify a condition of interest.

摘要: A lightweight direct methanol fuel cell unit (20) comprising a fuel cell stack (24) enclosed within a housing (22). In one embodiment the fuel cell stack includes a plurality of polymer electrolyte membrane electrode assemblies (52) stacked alternatingly with a plurality of bipolar plates (48). Each bipolar plate includes a cathode flow field (78) defined by a porous cathode flow field structure (56) and an anode flow field (62) defined by an upper plate (58) and a lower plate (60) separated from one another by a plurality of spacers (64). The anode flow fields are manifolded with one another via manifold embossments (118, 120) that are hermetically sealed with one another with a gasket (126). The fuel cell stack and housing are shaped so as to form four manifold regions (36) in the spaces between the fuel cell stack and housing. The fuel cell stack is compressed within the housing by compression members (94) located between the fuel cell stack and housing so as to place the sidewall (30) of the housing into tension. Supporting systems for the fuel cell unit include a fuel handling system (502), an oxidant handling system (600), and a liquid inventory control system (700).

摘要: An inspection system includes an electromagnetic shield having electrically conductive sidewalls spaced from one another. The shield also includes a conductive third wall which spans the distance between the sidewalls, and is electrically coupled to the sidewalls. The inspection system also has an inductive sensor positioned within the electromagnetic shield. The inductive sensor has two current branches, which exhibit anti-symmetric current flow. Typically, the two current branches are positioned on opposing sides of the medial plane of the electromagnetic shield.

摘要: A biomagnetometer measures a magnetic field produced by a source within the body of a subject, using a magnetic field sensor system. The biomagnetometer includes an ultrasonic transceiver that determines the internal physical structure of the body with ultrasonic waves. An electromagnetic transmitter/receiver establishes the position of the ultrasonic transceiver relative to the magnetic field sensor system. A computer controls and integrates the magnetic field sensor system, the ultrasonic transceiver, and the electromagnetic transmitter/receiver. The biomagnetometer permits a direct association between the measured biomagnetic field and the location of the source within the body of the subject.

摘要: An inspection system positions a balancing shim to asymmetrically balance a magnetic field generated by an inductive sensor, which forms part of the inspection system. Additionally, relays and capacitors used to tune the inductive sensor to a desired resonance frequency are geometrically arranged to minimize electrical interference generated by operation of the relays and capacitors. A shielding device, which may be formed on a printed circuit board, protects a magnetic field generated by the inductive sensor from external electromagnetic interference. A slot positioned in the inductive sensor may be used to tune a resonant mode of the inductive sensor to accurately and particularly detect metallic shanks and/or other metallic objects in shoes, socks, and/or clothing.
