摘要: In order to provide a ferrule for an optical-fiber connector used for good organization of an optical communication network, the ferrule for an optical-fiber connector is made of a crystallized glass having a composition which consists essentially of, by weight percent, 60-70% of SiO2, 16-25% of Al2O3, 1.5-3% of Li2O, 0.5-2.5% of MgO, 1.3-4.5% of TiO2, 0.5-3% of ZrO2, 2-6.5% of TiO2+ZrO2, 1-5.5% of K2O, 0-7% of ZnO, and 0-3% of BaO. The crystallized glass includes 30-70 volume % precipitation of &bgr;-spodumene solid solution or &bgr;-quartz solid solution having an average grain size not greater than 2 &mgr;m. In addition, the crystallized glass has a bend strength of 200 MPa or more and a thermal expansion coefficient of −10˜50×10−7/° C. at a temperature between −50 and 150° C.

摘要: An electric melting furnace for glassifying high-radioactive waste characterized in that, in a furnace for melting glass containing platinum-group elements which has an outlet of glass at the bottom part of a melting tank, the bottom of the furnace surrounding the outlet has an inclination of more than 30.degree. and not more than 70.degree. with respect to the horizontal plane toward the cullet, and the distance l.sub.1 between a surface-inside opening part of the outlet and bottom ends of at least a pair of electrodes (3a, 3b) for supplying most of power required for glass melting is a half or more, but not exceeding, of the distance (l.sub.2) between the electrodes (3a, 3b).

摘要: In the capillary tube 22, the cross section of the outer surface is substantially square, and the cross section of the insertion hole 23 is substantially square. Sides La, Lb of the outer surface have high dimensional accuracy and the insertion hole 23 is made to allow two optical fibers 5, 6 to be inserted while adjoining each other and arranged in order therein. The phases of the outer surface and the insertion hole 23 are relatively offset with each other, so that angles &thgr;a, &thgr;b which the sides 23a, 23b of the insertion hole 23 form with flat surfaces 22a, 22b of the outer surface are acute angles of substantially 45°±0.5°. Consequently, the flat surface 22a becomes substantially parallel to the center line M that connects the centers of the cores 5a, 6a of the two optical fibers 5, 6 inserted in the insertion hole 23, and the flat surface 22b becomes substantially perpendicular to the center line M.
