A virtual printer interface node enables a non-cloud-ready printer to communicate with a cloud-based service, residing on an internet. The virtual printer interface node includes a housing; a communication interface to provide communication directly to the network router; and a microcontroller operatively connected to the communication interface. The microcontroller converts commands, received through the communication interface, from the cloud-based service, residing on the internet, to native protocols of the non-cloud-ready networked printer and communicates the converted native protocols to the non-cloud-ready networked printer.

A system architecture and method are provided that allow a retailer to provide a unique shopping experience to their customers. The customers, who belong to multiple affinity groups and have a purchasing history, are provided coupons via a wireless mobile device at the time they enter a zone on or about a retail location. The customer may use their wireless mobile device to select coupons or incentives for items that they wish to purchase in the store and thereby receive a discount. Retailers and product manufacturers may incentivise customers to purchase their goods at or near the point of product selection.

Document processing devices and methods are presented, in which the device stores a remaining print unit value in its memory that represents the amount of print units currently available to enable the device to perform the document processing operations, and a programmable computer of the device selectively performs document processing jobs for users and decrements the remaining print unit value until the value reaches zero and the device provides for expenditure of print units according to color content and/or coverage levels determined for a given job.

The invention described in the specification relates to an improved ink jet printer cartridge structure which includes a substrate carrier or nose piece upon which semiconductor devices for ink jet printheads are mounted. The substrate carrier has a top surface containing one or more substrate locator wells each well having well walls, a well base and at least one ink feed slot in each well base and side walls attached to the top surface along the perimeter thereof. One or more of the side walls contain fins for heat removal from the substrate carrier and at least two alignment devices attached adjacent at least one of the side walls for precisely aligning the substrate carrier in a printer carriage. Among the advantages of the substrate carrier is that it provides a suitable means for substrate alignment for multiple substrates, a means for cooling multiple substrates, a means for fixedly or removably attaching the carrier to a ink reservoir body and a means for accurately aligning the carrier and reservoir body in a carriage of a printer.

A method for making an inkjet printhead nozzle plate from a composite strip containing a nozzle layer and an adhesive layer is disclosed. The adhesive layer is coated with a polymeric sacrificial layer prior to laser ablating the flow features in the composite strip. A method is also provided form improving adhesion between the adhesive layer and the sacrificial layer. Once the composite strip containing the sacrificial layer is prepared, the coated composite strip is then laser ablated to form flow features in the strip in order to form the nozzle plates. After forming the flow features, the sacrificial layer is removed individual inkjet printhead nozzle plate are separated from the composite strip by singulating the nozzle plates with a laser.

The invention described in the specification relates to a carrier for an ink jet printhead having unique characteristics which substantially inhibit corrosion and provide improved thermal heat transfer from energizer devices for the ink to the surrounding atmosphere. The carrier has top and bottom surfaces and is adapted to receive a chip and a circuit layer thereon. Another feature of the carrier is a well having a base and walls surrounding the base for receiving a semiconductor chip therein. The walls extend above the top surface of the carrier to a wall height that is substantially equal to the thickness of the circuit layer. The well has a well depth that is substantially equal to the thickness of the chip. A slot formed in the base of the well extends from the bottom surface of the carrier to the base and provide a flow path for ink to the energizers on the chip. Use of a separate carrier for the printhead components provides increased process versatility during the manufacture of the printhead.

A nozzle plate for an ink jet print head and method therefor is provided. The nozzle plate has a polymeric layer, an adhesive layer attached to the polymeric layer defining a nozzle plate thickness and ablated portions of the polymeric layer and adhesive layer defining flow feature of the nozzle plate which contain ink flow channels, firing chambers, nozzle holes, an ink supply region and one or more projections of polymeric material in the ink supply region of the nozzle plate. The one or more projections are selected from the group consisting of an elongate portion of polymeric material having an ablated portion surrounding the elongate portion, partially ablated spaced elongate fingers having a height which is less than the thickness of the nozzle plate which are parallel to and offset from the ink flow channels, and a plurality of spaced projections having a height which is less than the thickness of the nozzle plate extending from the flow feature surface adjacent the ink flow channels having a spacing between adjacent projections which is sufficient to trap debris before the debris enters the ink flow channels to the firing chambers.
