A field emission type fluorescent display device capable of carrying out luminous display with increased reliability at an anode voltage 200V to 1000V and providing a desired luminous color by means of a filter. The fluorescent display device includes a luminous display section consisting of three display elements. The display elements include filters of red, green and blue colors on which light-permeable anode conductors are deposited, respectively. Then, the anode conductors have phosphors of the same colors as the filters deposited thereon, respectively. The blue phosphor is made of ZnO:Zn substantially containing a blue color component. Thus, a combination of the blue filter and phosphor provides light of a blue color with increased efficiency.

A fluorescent display tube is provided, which employs a non-evaporation type getter, instead of the evaporation-type Ba getter, whereby the serviceable life of the fluorescent substance containing SrTiO3 as a base component is prolonged. At least one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Zr, V, Fe, Ti, Ma, Mn, and La are used for the getter for fluorescent display tubes, each which employs a fluorescent substance containing SrTiO3 as a base component. This feature allows carbon series residual gases remaining in the tube to be removed, so that the serviceable operation can be prolonged.

A front glass cover is provided on an inner surface thereof with FECs constituted by cathode lines, insulating layers, emitters and gate lines so as to define light-permeable sections between FECs. A substrate is formed opposite to the light-permeable sections with anodes constituted by anode-lines and phosphor layers. Electrons emitted from the FECs impinge on the anodes, leading to luminescence of the phosphor layer, which is then observed through the light-permeable sections of the front glass cover.
