The polymer of the present invention is high in melting point, small in loss of melting viscosity and has a high molecular weight. A polyester fiber is disclosed, comprising a polyester obtained by copolymerizing a third component with poly(trimethylene terephthalate) wherein the third component is an ester-forming sulfonate compound in a copolymerizing ratio of from 0.5 to 5 mol %, the fiber has a peak temperature of loss tangent of from 85 to 115° C., and the relationship between modulus Q (g/d) and elastic recovery R (%) of the fiber satisfies the following formula (1): 0.18≦Q/R≦0.45. This fiber can be dyed into a dark shade under atmospheric pressure and enables fast dyeing of a fabric using the fiber in composite with a stretch fiber represented by polyurethane elastic fiber or a fiber material having low heat resistance such as wool silk and acetate fiber. The composite fabric can be dyed under atmospheric pressure, therefore, the physical properties of fiber having low heat resistance used in combination is not impaired during the dyeing process. The polyester fiber of the present invention can be treated for caustic reduction, therefore, a fiber having highly soft and dry touch and dyeability into brilliant color can be obtained.

A polyester resin composition is disclosed, comprising poly(trimethylene terephthalate) in a proportion of 90 wt % or more, wherein the resin composition has an intrinsic viscosity of from 0.4 to 2 and contains a phosphorus compound corresponding to from 10 to 250 ppm in terms of the amount of phosphorus element, a cyclic dimer in an amount of not exceeding 3 wt % and a bis(3-hydroxypropyl)ether in an amount of 2 wt % or less. This polyester resin composition has excellent spinning stability and high melt stability and is used for the production of a poly(trimethylene terephthalate)-based fiber having excellent whiteness and high tenacity.

Polymers obtained using the monomer and fibers, films and molded articles comprising the polymers. The ester-forming monomer is obtained by reacting polytrimethylene terephthalate with at least one compound selected from among monoalcohols, 1,3-propanediol and water in the presence of a basic substance. When the recovered ester-forming monomer is used as the starting material for production of a polymer, it is possible to produce a molding polymer for fibers, films and the like with quality equivalent to or higher than that obtained using virgin monomer.

There are disclosed polyester fibers that are composed of at least 90% by weight of poly(trimethylene terephthalate) and have a limiting viscosity of 0.4-2, being characterized by containing a phosphorus compound at 10-250 ppm in terms of weight of elemental phosphorus, containing no more than 3 wt % of cyclic dimers, containing no more than 2 wt % of bis(3-hydroxypropyl) ether copolymerized with the poly(trimethylene terephthalate), and having a birefringence of 0.03 or greater. The polyester fibers are poly(trimethylene terephthalate)-based fibers with excellent whiteness and tenacity, which are obtained by melt spinning of poly(trimethylene terephthalate) resin composition with improved whiteness, melt stability and spinning stability. The polyester fibers of the invention have satisfactory processability and can be mixed with stretch fibers and the like to provide fabrics having functions that cannot be obtained with commonly used polyester fibers and nylon fibers, for various types of clothing products and the like.

Accordingly, the polyester fiber of the present invention is suitable for use in innerwear, outerwear, sportswear, legwear, lining cloths, swimwear and the like. In addition, the polyester fiber can be stably manufactured in high productivity by a process in which spinning and drawing are consecutively conducted to prevent the undrawn yarn from aging.
