A corresponding method for accelerating the absorption of carbon dioxide is also provided, wherein a carbon dioxide-containing gas is contacted with such a scrubbing solution, wherein the carbon dioxide is physically dissolved in the scrubbing solution and is chemically absorbed with the participation of the absorbent, and wherein the germanium dioxide acts catalytically for at least one reaction step of the chemical absorption of the carbon dioxide.

An apparatus for processing a gas stream and especially for processing a flue gas stream, includes a scrubbing apparatus for removing harmful substances from the gas stream by means of a scrubbing medium, and a separation apparatus which is connected downstream of the washing apparatus and comprises an absorber and a desorber for separation of carbon dioxide from the gas stream by means of a scrubbing medium. In this context, the scrubbing apparatus and the separation apparatus are set up to use the same scrubbing medium. The store and the desorber are thermally coupled to each other via a line system, and the store is thermally coupled to an electrically driven heating device which allows a thermal conditioning of the heat transfer fluid in the store. The heating device is designed as a gas turbine driven by a generator as a motor, and air is sucked into the compression stage of the gas turbine while the turbine is driven and is substantially adiabatically heated as a result of the compression. The heated exhaust gas exiting the gas turbine interacts with the store for the purpose of the heat transfer.
