A multiple ply tissue paper structure is disclosed. The multiple ply tissue paper has plies having different texture values. In one embodiment, the multiple ply tissue paper has two plies having different calipers and macrodensities. In another embodiment, the multiple ply tissue paper has three plies, including a relatively untextured ply disposed between two relatively highly textured plies.
Abstract:
Fibrous structures that exhibit improved consumer recognizable properties, especially a VFS of greater than about 11 g/g, and to methods for making such fibrous structures are provided.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a composition for softening an absorbent tissue and tissue structures softened using the composition. The composition includes an effective amount of a softening active ingredient; a vehicle in which the softening active ingredient is dispersed; an electrolyte dissolved in the vehicle; a bilayer disrupter and a high polymer. The electrolyte and the bilayer disrupter cooperate to cause the viscosity of the composition to be less than the viscosity of a dispersion of the softening active ingredient in the vehicle alone. The high polymer adds “stringiness” to the composition opening the air pressure operating window for spray application of the softening composition. Preferably, the softening active ingredient is a quaternary ammonium compound with the formula: (R1)4−m—N+—[(CH2)n—Y—R3]mX− the vehicle is water, the electrolyte is calcium chloride, the bilayer disrupter is a nonionic surfactant, and the high molecular weight polymer is a nonionic polyacrylamide.
Abstract:
A wipe product comprises a substrate and functional additive, preferably a high internal phase inverse emulsion, disposed in a discontinuous pattern on the substrate such that the pattern provides areas coated with the emulsion and areas free of the emulsion. When the product is wound into a roll, any two adjacent layers in the roll have their areas coated with the functional additive offset relative to each other. This improves water-retaining characteristics and roll compressibility characteristics of the product. Preferably, the functional additive of one layer is supported by the areas free of the functional additive of the adjacent layer. During the use, upon the application of pressure to the wipe, the emulsion locally expresses water useful for cleaning. The discontinuous pattern of the emulsion provides regions of the substrate which are wetted during use and regions which may remain dry. The wetted regions transfer water to the surface to be cleaned. The dry regions then remove the water from the surface for more efficacious cleaning.
Abstract:
The present invention comprises an apparatus for making a selectively-coated web. The apparatus comprises a coating means for applying a coating to a web in a plurality of coated regions, the coated regions being in spaced, parallel relationship to a plurality of uncoated regions. The present invention further comprises support means for supporting the web after coating, the support means comprising a plurality of support members, each of the support members being in registry with an uncoated region. In a preferred embodiment the coating of a beneficial emulsion is applied in selected regions by extrusion. A method of forming a coated web without producing buildup of coating material on idler rollers is also disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: (a) coating a web in a plurality of coated regions, the coated regions being in parallel spaced apart relationship to uncoated regions; (b) providing support members, each of the support members being aligned in registry with an uncoated region; and (c) guiding the coated web in contact with the support members such that each support member is in registry with an uncoated region of said web.
Abstract:
A multiple ply tissue paper structure is disclosed. The paper structure includes a ply comprising discrete relatively low density regions dispersed throughout a relatively high density continuous network. The paper structure also include a ply which does not include discrete relatively low density regions dispersed throughout a relatively high density continuous network. The different structures of the two plies provide improved absorbency over a homogeneous multiple ply structure.
