Abstract:
A sintered polycrystalline diamond material (PCD) of extremely fine grain size is manufactured by sintering a diamond powder with pre-blended catalyst metal under high pressure/high temperature (HP/HT) processing. The PCD material has an average sintered diamond grain structure of less than 1.0 μm.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a die comprising a die core (10) of a hard material and at least two pre-stressed rings (60, 70) of increasing diameter placed around the die core and methods of making and using the same. The die core (10) is held in place by a force generated through deformation of mating geometric features on the die and the rings (60, 70) of increasing diameter.
Abstract:
Briefly described, embodiments of this disclosure include fusible print media, methods of making fusible print media, and systems for preparing a fused ink-jet image. One exemplary embodiment of the fusible print medium, among others, includes a substrate and an ink-receiving layer disposed on the substrate. The ink-receiving layer includes a plurality of hollow polymer beads having substantially the same diameter.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a method for treating discolored natural diamond, especially Type IIa diamond and Type IaA/B diamond with nitrogen as predominantly B centers, for improving its color. The method includes preblocking and preshaping a discolored natural diamond to prevent its breakage in a high pressure/high temperature (HP/HT) press, placing said discolored natural diamond in a pressure transmitting medium which is consolidated into a pill. Next, the pill is placed into a HP/HT press at elevated pressure and elevated temperature within the graphite-stable or diamond-stable range of the carbon phase diagram for a time sufficient to improve the color of said diamond. Finally, the diamond is recovered from said press. Colorless and fancy colored diamonds can be made by this method.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to compositions such as fibers, elastic yarns, wovens, nonwovens, knitted fabrics, fine nets, and articles produced at least in part from a styrenic block copolymer comprising at least two blocks produced from vinyl aromatic monomers and at least one block produced from alkyl-substituted, conjugated alkene monomers, where the block produced from the conjugated alkene may have sufficient substitution so as to prevent or significantly minimize thermal cross-linking of the residual unsaturation in the formed block during fiber formation. Additionally, the composition may be described as processable, without requiring any additives if, for example, the order-disorder-transition (ODT) temperature is less than about 280° C.
Abstract:
There is provided a method and apparatus for tuning an optical discriminator to the carrier frequency of an optical signal to allow superior reception of said signal. The carrier frequency of the signal is dithered during a test phase in order to provide information that allows a subsequent tuning phase to optimise the reception of the optical signal, as measured by a signal quality metric. The tuning phase may comprise adjustment of one or both of the carrier frequency and the optical discriminator.
Abstract:
This invention pertains in part to the development of a vaccine for poultry against necrotic enteritis (NE). The vaccine utilizes a protective antigen that is a mutated, full-length, non-toxic Clostridium perfringens (Cp) α-toxin protein (Mcpa). Utility of this vaccine was demonstrated by reduction of lesion severity in NE challenge trails, for example. Also disclosed herein are novel approaches for producing this vaccine in significant quantities. One exemplified approach involves producing NE vaccine (mutated alpha toxin) in bacterial expression systems, preferably utilizing the Pseudomonas fluorescens system, for commercial use in controlling NE in the poultry industry. The subject vaccines can be administered preferably to chickens in several different ways. A novel, Type VI alpha toxin from chicken isolates of Cp is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A portable device that produces inconspicuous sounds for event notification is disclosed. One type of inconspicuous sound is a sound that the human body makes in response to an involuntary bodily function. For example, the portable device could produce the sound of a cough to alert the user of an event. Other types of inconspicuous sounds are sounds that are commonly heard in the environment. For example, when in a restaurant the sound of clinking glasses is a common sound.
