    摘要: Provided is a lithium secondary battery with enhanced energy density including a cathode using a cathode active material containing lithium mixed transition metal oxide absorbing and discharging lithium ions, wherein a final discharge voltage is in the range of about 1.5 V to about 2.75 V. A final discharge voltage can be reduced to 1.5 V to 2.75 V from 3.0 V by using various lithium mixed transition metal oxides as a cathode active material, or by using the various lithium mixed transition metal oxides with the LCO-based cathode material mixed. Compared to typical LCO-based cathode materials of which capacity and energy density do not change even if a final discharge voltage is decreased, a cathode material of the present invention results in further improving capacity by 10-20% as the final discharge voltage is decreased.

An electrode comprising a passivation layer partially or totally formed on a surface thereof, wherein the passivation layer comprises a compound represented by the following Formula 1 or a chemical reaction product thereof, and a secondary battery using the electrolyte and/or the electrode are also disclosed. The compound can improve the initial charge/discharge efficiency and cycle life characteristics of a secondary battery, and can inhibit a battery from swelling under high-temperature storage conditions.

    摘要: Disclosed is an electrolyte for batteries, comprising: (a) an electrolyte salt; (b) an organic solvent; (c) a first compound having an oxidation initiation voltage (vs. Li/Li+) higher than the operating voltage of a cathode; and (d) a second reversible compound having an oxidation initiation voltage higher than the operating voltage of the cathode, but lower than the oxidation initiation voltage of the first compound. Also disclosed is a lithium secondary battery comprising said electrolyte. In the lithium secondary battery, two compounds having different safety improvement actions at a voltage higher than the operating voltage of the cathode are used in combination as electrolyte components. Thus, the safety of the secondary battery in an overcharged state can be ensured, and at the same time, the deterioration of the battery can be prevented from occurring when it is repeatedly cycled, continuously charged and stored at high temperature for a long time.
