Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to biofouling resistant coatings for medical devices. In an embodiment, an anti-fouling coated medical device is included having a substrate and a coating disposed over the substrate. The coating can include a hydrogel, and a polyzwitterion. The polyzwitterion can include a bound portion and an unbound portion. In some embodiments the coating can further include a heparin compound. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to lubricious coatings for medical devices. A coated medical device is included having a substrate and a lubricious coating disposed thereon. In some embodiments, the lubricious coating can include an outer protective layer including long polymer chains. The long polymer chains can include a bonded end and a mobile free end. In some embodiments, the lubricious coating can include a hydrogel layer and long polymer chains that are at least partially disposed within the lubricious coating. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to polyacrylic acid containing lubricious coatings for medical devices. In an embodiment, a lubricious coated medical device is included having a substrate and a first layer disposed over the substrate. The first layer can include a photoreactive polyvinylpyrrolidone, a non-photoreactive polyvinylpyrrolidone, and a crosslinking compound. A second layer can be disposed over the first layer, the second layer can include a poly(acrylic acid), and a non-photoreactive polyvinylpyrrolidone. The non-photoreactive polyvinylpyrrolidone of the second layer forms a complex with the poly(acrylic acid) of the second layer. The non-photoreactive polyvinylpyrrolidone of the second layer has a concentration existing as a gradient through a thickness of the second layer with a lower concentration at an outer surface of the second layer than at an inner surface of the second layer. Other embodiments are also included herein.
