Abstract: Aspects herein relate to apparatus and methods for coating medical devices. In an embodiment, a coating system is included having a two-part fluid applicator defining a central channel, the two-part fluid applicator can include a first part having a first degree of flexibility; and a second part having a second degree of flexibility. The system can further include a fluid supply conduit in fluid communication with the fluid applicator; and a fluid supply reservoir in fluid communication with the fluid supply conduit. Abstract: Aspects herein relate to coating apparatus and methods for coating medical devices. In an embodiment, a coating system is included having a valve, a fluid supply reservoir in fluid communication with the valve, a reciprocating positive displacement pump in fluid communication with the valve, and a fluid applicator in fluid communication with the three-way valve. The valve can be configured to assume a first fluid transport state and a second fluid transport state, wherein the valve provides fluid communication between the fluid supply reservoir and the reciprocating positive displacement pump when in the first fluid transport state for filling of the reciprocating positive displacement pump, and wherein the valve provides fluid communication between the reciprocating positive displacement pump and the fluid applicator when in the second fluid transport state for applying a coating suspension to a medical device surface. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to polyacrylic acid containing lubricious coatings for medical devices. In an embodiment, a lubricious coated medical device is included having a substrate and a first layer disposed over the substrate. The first layer can include a photoreactive polyvinylpyrrolidone, a non-photoreactive polyvinylpyrrolidone, and a crosslinking compound. A second layer can be disposed over the first layer, the second layer can include a poly(acrylic acid), and a non-photoreactive polyvinylpyrrolidone. The non-photoreactive polyvinylpyrrolidone of the second layer forms a complex with the poly(acrylic acid) of the second layer. The non-photoreactive polyvinylpyrrolidone of the second layer has a concentration existing as a gradient through a thickness of the second layer with a lower concentration at an outer surface of the second layer than at an inner surface of the second layer. Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include apparatus and methods for coating drug coated medical devices. In an embodiment, the invention includes a coating apparatus including a coating application unit. The coating application unit can include a fluid applicator having a lengthwise axis and a width. The fluid applicator can include a tip comprising a first face across the width of the fluid applicator. The first face of the fluid applicator can be oriented at an angle of from about 15 to about 75 degrees with respect to the lengthwise axis of the fluid applicator. The fluid applicator can define a second face intersecting the first face. The coating apparatus can further include a rotation mechanism and an axial motion mechanism. Other embodiments are also included herein.
