摘要: A method and apparatus for assessing the compatibility of a selected network feature with the network features of an existing telecommunications network 10 comprises providing an abstraction of each network feature in the form of a data model 100 which defines the relationships between any network elements 12 or nodes 27, software elements 13 and software features 14 required for each network feature. Information 19 is then collected about the existing telecommunications network 10 to identity the deployment of the network features in the existing network. This information is then combined with the data model 100 to build a feature compatibility matrix 107 which defines the compatibility of network features in the existing telecommunications network 10. The matrix 107 can then be interrogated with information defining the parameters of the selected feature to be added or upgraded to determine whether the selected feature is compatible with features of the existing network.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method of quality of service monitoring of at least one service in a communication network. The method comprises a first and a second modes. The first mode comprises detecting degradation in quality of service in a communication network by selecting (80) a set of terminal service sessions for providing terminal service session reports; collecting (82) terminal service session information from the selected terminal service sessions; and determining (84) the quality of service in the communication network from the terminal service sessions monitored in the first mode. The second mode, being entered when a degradation of service quality in at least part of terminal service sessions is detected (86), comprises identifying at least one factor causing degradation of service quality in the communication network in steps of determining (88) at least one potential factor associated with terminal service sessions having degraded service quality as a candidate factor potentially causing the observed service quality degradation in at least part of the terminal service sessions; collecting (90) terminal service session information from terminal service sessions associated with at least one candidate factor; and evaluating (92) collected terminal service session information for service sessions associated with a candidate factor to identify whether the candidate factor is a cause of service quality degradation.

摘要: A telecommunications switching system (1) has a switch unit (2) having switches (9) controlled by local modules (10). These modules implement instructions which are either in-build or are received from remote modules (20) on machines (6, 7, 8) which communicate via a central router (3). This allows almost unlimited processing scalability and versatility. An application object base (21) has an object corresponding directly to a local module (10) or a subset thereof and a signal base (22) provides signal-level commands understood by the local module (10). A signal transfer function (23) on the remote machine (6), and a signal transfer function (11) on the switch unit (2) provide for direct transfer of signals in both directions. There is no need to modify the local modules (10) as the signal transfer function (11) is addressable as a local module and the remote aspect of the interaction is transparent to the local modules (10).
