Abstract:
An embodiment is a portable in-home display/controller device including a power line communication interface providing two-way communication over a power line communication medium, a wireless communication interface providing two-way communication over a wireless network, and a docking station configured to receive the portable in-home display/controller for connection to the power line communication medium. The wireless communication interface provides access point functionality when the in-home display/controller device is docked to the docking station and connects to a communication network via the power line communication interface. The in-home display/controller device is configured to automatically, without operator intervention, function as a wireless client when it is removed from the docking station.

Abstract:
In accordance with an embodiment, a network device includes a network controller and at least one network interface coupled to the network controller that includes at least one media access control (MAC) device configured to be coupled to at least one physical layer interface (PHY). The network controller may be configured to determine a network path comprising the at least one network interface that has a lowest power consumption and minimum security attributes of available media types coupled to the at least one PHY.
Abstract:
A powerline communication system includes a plurality of rail segments. Each of the rail segments is electrically isolated from other rail segments, and each receives power from a rail segment power supply. At least one cart operates on the rail segments. The cart has a powerline communications controller. Each rail segment has a current state defined by how many and which carts are operating on the rail segment. A central coordinator is coupled to each rail segment and configured to execute a channel estimation using a sounding protocol on its rail segment. The central coordinators store tone maps associated with the possible states of its rail segment, and possibly its adjacent rail segment. A main controller communicates with each central coordinator to direct the state and future state of its segment so that tone maps and network keys can be managed by the CCo in advance of an imminent state change. The main controller or CCo may also execute channel estimation using a sounding protocol and cause updated tone map information to be sent to each central coordinator in advance of an imminent state change.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present disclosure include a method of operating an arc fault detection system, an arc fault detection system, and a system. An embodiment is a method of operating an arc fault detection system coupled to a power line, the method including determining one or more arc fault detection windows in power line signals on the power line, the power line signals comprising a communication signal and an alternating current (AC) power signal. The method further includes receiving the power line signals from the power line during the one or more arc fault detection windows, and performing arc fault detection processing on the received power line signals.
Abstract:
In accordance with an embodiment, a method of operating an electronic system includes detecting an incoming transmission on a power line, and modifying a switching behavior of a switched-mode power supply coupled to the power line upon detecting the incoming transmission. Modifying reduces the level of interference produced by the switched-mode power supply.
Abstract:
Multicast transmissions are efficient but do not allow for individual acknowledgement that the data was received by each receiver. This is not acceptable for isochronous systems that require specific levels of QoS for each device. A multimedia communications protocol is provided that uses a novel multi-destination burst transmission protocol in multimedia isochronous systems. The transmitter establishes a bi-directional burst mode for multicasting data to multiple devices and receiving Reverse Start of Frame (RSOF) delimiters from each multicast-destination receiver in response to multiple SOF delimiters, thus providing protocol-efficient multi-destination acknowledgements.
