Abstract:
In the method of preparing sulfurized, alkoxylated, inorganic phosphorus acid free, steam hydrolyzed polyalkene-P2S5 reaction product useful as a detergent-dispersant in lubricating oil compositions of improved antioxidant and odor properties comprising contacting polyalkene and P2S5 in the presence of a catalytic amount of sulfur to form the polyalkene-P2S5 reaction product, contacting the resultant polyalkene-P2S5 reaction product with steam to form an inorganic phosphorus acid containing hydrolyzed polyalkene-P2S5 reaction product, removing inorganic phosphorus acid from the hydrolyzed polyalkene-P2S5 reaction product, contacting the inorganic acid free, hydrolyzed polyalkene-P2S5 reaction product with alkylene oxide, the improvement which comprises the step selected from the group consisting of (1) contacting said inorganic acid free, steam hydrolyzed polyalkene-P2S5 intermediate product with added sulfur, and (2) contacting the alkoxylated, inorganic phosphorus acid free, steam hydrolyzed polyalkene-P2S5 reaction product with added sulfur. The invention is also directed to the resultant sulfurized alkoxylated product and lubricant compositions thereof.
Abstract:
The reaction product of a dehydrohalogenated polyalkene and a maleic anhydride prepared by the method comprising halogenating polyalkene, dehydrohalogenating the resultant halogenated polyalkene and reacting the formed dehydrohalogenated polyalkene with maleic anhydride; the derivative of said reaction product and alkylene polyamine having detergent-dispersant properties in oil and hydrocarbon lubricating oil compositions containing said derivative.
Abstract:
Sulfurized and chlorinated alkylene-polyamine reaction product effective as an ashless lubricant additive and a mineral lubricating oil composition containing same.
Abstract:
A reaction product of detergent-dispersant properties in lubricating oil prepared by the sequential method of (1) reacting polyalkene of from 30 to 300 carbons with maleic anhydride to form alkenyl succinic anhydride, (2) contacting the alkenyl succinic anhydride with chlorine or bromine in the absence of hydroxylic and solvent compounds to form halogenated alkenyl succinic anhydride, (3) contacting the halogenated alkenyl succinic anhydride with alkylene polyamine to form crude reaction product of halogenated alkenyl succinic anhydride and alkylene polyamine and (4) preferably contacting the crude reaction product with a strong inorganic base and recovering the purified reaction product. Lubricant compositions containing a detergentdispersant quantity of said halogenated succinic anhydridealkylene polyamine reaction product.
