Abstract: The disclosure includes a system and method for managing traffic in a roadway system based on Basic Safety Message data (“BSM data”) included in a set of Basic Safety Messages (“BSMs”). The method may include wirelessly receiving a set of BSMs describing a set of vehicles traveling along the roadway system. Each BSM included in the set of BSMs may describe a specific vehicle included in the set of vehicles, including that vehicle's lane, speed and heading of travel. The method may include analyzing the BSM data to determine whether there is an imbalance of traffic flow among a first set of vehicles traveling towards a first heading and a second set of vehicles traveling towards a second heading. The method may include determining that the bidirectional lane will be reconfigured so that traffic in the bidirectional lane flows towards the second heading based on the imbalance of traffic flow.

Abstract: The disclosure includes implementations for providing a micro-navigation suggestion. The method may include receiving a wireless message that includes sensor data that describes a traffic event affecting a route of travel for a vehicle. The wireless message may include a Dedicated Short Range Communication message. The wireless message may include a full-duplex wireless message received during a full-duplex operation mode of a full-duplex coordination system included in the vehicle. The vehicle and the traffic event may be present on a roadway included in the route of travel for the vehicle. The traffic event may be located in a direction where the vehicle is traveling. The method may include analyzing the sensor data included in the wireless message to determine a micro-navigation suggestion for a driver of the vehicle. The method may include providing the micro-navigation suggestion to the driver.

Abstract: The disclosure includes implementations for providing a recommendation to a driver of a second DSRC-equipped vehicle. The recommendation may describe an estimate of how long it would take the second DSRC-equipped vehicle to receive a roadside service from a drive-through business. A method according to some implementations may include receiving, by the second DSRC-equipped vehicle, a Dedicated Short Range Communication message (“DSRC message”) that includes path history data. The path history data may describe a path of a first DSRC-equipped vehicle over a plurality of different times while the first DSRC-equipped vehicle is located in a queue of the drive-through business. The method may include determining delay time data for the second DSRC-equipped vehicle based on the path history data for the first DSRC-equipped vehicle. The delay time data may describe the estimate. The method may include providing the recommendation to the driver. The recommendation may include the estimate.

Traffic Obstruction Notification System Based on Wireless Vehicle Data

Abstract: The disclosure includes implementations for estimating a presence of an obstruction in a roadway using wireless vehicle data. A method may include receiving a Dedicated Short Range Communication (“DSRC”) message that includes path history data describing a path of a first DSRC-equipped vehicle with lane-level accuracy over a plurality of different times while the first DSRC-equipped vehicle is traveling on a roadway. The method may include determining a presence of an obstruction in a specific lane of the roadway based on the path history data. The obstruction may be indicated by the path history data because the path history data indicates that the obstruction affected the path of the first DSRC-equipped vehicle while traveling in the specific lane of the roadway. The method may include providing a recommendation to a driver of a second DSRC-equipped vehicle. The recommendation may describe the presence of the obstruction in the specific lane.
