Abstract: An object of the present invention is to cause diesel combustion to occur with reduced smoke in an internal combustion engine using a fuel having a relatively high self-ignition temperature. A control apparatus performs first injection at a first injection time during the compression stroke, causes spray guide combustion to occur, and starts to perform second injection at such a second injection time after the occurrence of the spray guide combustion and before the top dead center of the compression stroke that causes combustion of injected fuel to be started by flame generated by the spray guide combustion, thereby causing self-ignition and diffusion combustion of fuel to occur. In an operation range in which the engine load is higher than a predetermined load, the apparatus performs third injection at such a third injection time before the first injection time during the compression stroke that causes the fuel injected by said third injection to be burned by self-ignition or diffusion combustion after the start of the second injection.

Abstract: An object is to achieve stable diesel combustion and improvement in the thermal efficiency of the diesel combustion in an internal combustion engine using a fuel having a relatively high self-ignition temperature. A control apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes a fuel injection valve capable of injecting fuel into a combustion chamber and an ignition device whose position relative to the fuel injection valve is set in such a way that it can ignite fuel spray directly. The apparatus performs pre-injection at a predetermined pre-injection time during the compression stroke and main injection at a predetermined injection start time after pre-spray formed by the pre-injection is ignited by the ignition device, thereby causing self-ignition to occur and causing at least a portion of the main-injected fuel to burn by diffusion combustion. When the quantity of the pre-injected fuel is increased, the pre-injection time is advanced responsive to the increase in the quantity of the pre-injected fuel.

Abstract: A main injection of fuel from a fuel injector into a combustion chamber is made to auto-ignite. During the compression stroke after the main injection and before the auto-ignition of the fuel injected during the main injection, a first auxiliary injection and a second auxiliary injection are successively injected from the fuel injector. By controlling the injection timing of the first auxiliary injection, the ignition timing of a spark plug, and the injection timing of the second auxiliary injection, the fuel injected during the first auxiliary injection is made to burn by flame propagation combustion by the ignition action of the spark plug, the fuel injected during the second auxiliary injection is made to be injected inside the flame propagation combustion region, and the fuel injected during the second auxiliary injection is made to burn by diffusive combustion before auto-ignition of the fuel injected during the main injection occurs.

Abstract: An object is to achieve stable diesel combustion and improvement in the thermal efficiency of the diesel combustion in an internal combustion engine using a fuel having a relatively high self-ignition temperature. A control apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes a fuel injection valve capable of injecting fuel into a combustion chamber and an ignition device whose position relative to the fuel injection valve is set in such a way that it can ignite fuel spray directly. The apparatus causes pre-injected fuel to burn and generates unburned residue of the pre-injected fuel in the combustion chamber by pre-injection performed at a predetermined pre-injection time during the compression stroke and ignition of pre-spray formed by the pre-injection by the ignition device. Then, the apparatus starts main injection at such a predetermined injection start time before the top dead center of the compression stroke that enables combustion to be started by flame generated by combustion of pre-injected fuel to cause the unburned residue of the pre-injected fuel and the main-injected fuel to burn by causing the unburned residue of the pre-injected fuel and the main-injected fuel to self-ignite and causing at least a portion of the main-injected fuel to burn by diffusion combustion.

Abstract: A sealing structure includes an O-ring and a back-up ring. An outer diameter of the back-up ring is smaller than an inner diameter of a mounting portion of a delivery pipe. Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention prevent the occurrence of rapid or intense self-ignition of fuel in an internal combustion engine that performs diesel combustion using a fuel having a relatively high self-ignition temperature. Pre-combustion is brought about by spark ignition during the compression stroke. Thereafter, main injection by an in-cylinder injection valve is performed before the top dead center of the compression stroke. In consequence, combustion of the fuel injected by the main injection is started by flame generated by the pre-combustion, and self-ignition and diffusion combustion of fuel occurs subsequently. Moreover, in at least a part of the operation range of the internal combustion engine, middle injection is performed at a time after the spark ignition of the pre-injected fuel and before the main injection. The fuel injected by the middle injection is burned by propagation of flame.

A control apparatus performs first injection at a first injection time during the compression stroke, causes spray guide combustion to occur, and starts to perform second injection at such a second injection time that causes combustion of injected fuel to be started by flame generated by the spray guide combustion, thereby causing self-ignition and diffusion combustion of fuel to occur. The apparatus changes the ratio of the first injected fuel quantity to the total fuel injection quantity and the ratio of the second injected fuel quantity to the total fuel injection quantity for the same total fuel injection quantity in one combustion cycle, based on the EGR rate in the intake air.
