    Abstract: Devices, systems and methods for controlling an exterior and dashboard lights of an autonomous vehicle are described. One example of a method for controlling one or more exterior lights includes receiving, from an autonomous driving system (ADS) of the vehicle, an input to control one or more exterior lights that are part of a lighting system of the vehicle, and transmitting, based on the input, a message to a controller area network (CAN) bus of the lighting system, the message being further based on a driver command upon a determination that a driver-initiated message is received. In an example, the lighting system of the vehicle further comprises a plurality of dashboard lights.

    Abstract: Improvements to steering functionality and safety thereof for a vehicle are disclosed. In particular, disclosed embodiments monitor and diagnose steering commands received by an in-vehicle controller from a remote server. The steering commands may be evaluated with respect to rationality and context. For example, a steering angle indicated by the steering command is compared to a current vehicle steering angle and/or to other steering angles indicated by preceding and/or subsequent steering commands. Based on diagnosis of the steering commands, an in-vehicle controller can permit or prevent engagement of autonomous vehicle operation, which applies the steering commands. In an autonomous mode, invalid steering commands can trigger a minimal risk condition (MRC) maneuver for the vehicle.

    Abstract: A computer-implemented method and apparatus are provided for training a safety driver associated with an autonomous vehicle (AV) operating in an autonomous driving mode. The computer-implemented method includes receiving a selection of one or more vehicle operation faults that are configured to impact operation of one or more vehicle systems of the AV. The computer-implemented method also includes injecting the one or more vehicle operation faults into one or more vehicle systems of the AV and detecting one or more driver responses executed by the safety driver in response to the one or more vehicle operation faults. The computer-implemented method further includes determining a reaction time associated with the one or more driver responses. The reaction time is a measure of time it takes the safety driver to respond to the one or more vehicle operation faults.

    Abstract: A vehicle data processing system receives a set of data logged, during operation of each of a fleet of vehicles, by a data logger communicatively coupled to a controller area network (CAN) bus in each of the vehicles. The set of logged data can include a plurality of measurements generated by a sensor configured to transmit the measurements across the CAN bus, and can be received from a storage device to which the set of logged data was uploaded after the vehicle completed one or more trips. The system processes the logged data using a set of alerting rules. When a criterion in the set of alerting rules is satisfied by the set of logged data, the system outputs an alert.
