摘要： An information display device (10) includes a light source (11), a light guide plate (13) to which light from the light source (11) enters from a side surface and from which the light exits from one principal surface, and a liquid crystal panel (16) disposed adjacently to the light guide plate (13). Outside light is injected into the light guide plate (13) from an opposing surface opposing the one principal surface. The light guide plate (13) includes a light control mirror (19) electrically switchable to transmit light and to reflect light. At least one of the light from the light source (11) and the outside light exits from the one principal surface of the light guide plate (13). The light passes through the liquid crystal panel (16) and a character or an image is displayed.

摘要： A liquid crystal display device includes a reflective color filter arranged to intersect with an optical path of light emerging from a principal surface of a light guide plate, and a recycle portion arranged at a side of the light guide plate opposite to the reflective color filter. Out of light incident on the light guide plate, light reflected by the reflective color filter is returned to the reflected color filter again by being reflected by the recycle portion via the light guide plate.

The mirror array (12c) has a plurality of reflecting surfaces totally reflecting laser light incident on an incident surface (12a), of the light guide, perpendicular to the one main surface and emits the laser light from an emitting surface (12b), of the light guide, perpendicular to the one main surface, wherein the reflecting surfaces are formed in a stepped manner. Further, the planar illuminating device includes a light-guiding plate (3) making the laser light, emitted from the light guide (12), incident on an incident surface (3a) of the light-guiding plate and emitting the laser light from an emitting surface (3b) of the light-guiding plate.

The diffused laser lights are converted to parallel lights by a first cylindrical lens 6, and are then converged in a direction of the thickness of the light guide plate 9 by a second cylindrical lens 7. The converged laser lights are reflected 90 degrees twice by a mirror 8, and are guided to a side surface of the light guide plate 9.

The optical element provides an output substantially parallel to a thickness direction of the light guide plate. A light deflecting unit, including a plurality of deflectors, is provided on a principal surface of the light guide plate for deflecting incident laser light towards an output surface of the light guide. The light deflecting unit is arranged such that a degree of deflection of the light incident on the light guide plate differs according to positions in the light guide plate, to make an amount of light outputted from the output surface uniform across such output surface.
