摘要: A HUD system and light source apparatus can be manufactured with miniaturization at low cost. A head-up display apparatus includes: an image display apparatus generating image light to be projected; an optical system performing predetermined correction to the image light emitted from the image display apparatus; and a concave mirror reflecting the image light corrected by the optical system to project it onto a windshield or combiner. The image display apparatus includes: a solid light source; a collimating optical system converting, into parallel light, the light from the solid light source; a lighting optical system configured by an optical member that polarizes a direction of a light beam generated by the collimating optical system and simultaneously expands a width of the light beam; and a display apparatus, the image display apparatus being configured to be arranged across and opposite the optical system on an optical axis of the concave mirror.

摘要: A near-eye display apparatus comprises a spatial light modulator illuminated by a directional backlight and a magnifying lens arranged to provide a magnified wide field of view image to an eye of a user. The directional backlight comprises an array of light sources and a stepped waveguide comprising a curved reflective end. Light propagates along the waveguide without loss and is reflected from the reflective end. The steps of the waveguide are arranged to provide a virtual optical window for each light source. The magnifying lens images the virtual optical window to a real pupil window in an eyebox. The real pupil window may be steered in response to the measured location of the user's pupil. High illumination efficiency is provided to the user in a thin form factor.

The apparatus may include a waveguide layer to guide an optical beam, and a lenslet layer, coupled to a surface of the waveguide layer, to focus a portion of the optical beam. The apparatus may further include a first active layer, coupled to another surface of the waveguide layer, to allow the portion of the optical beam to decouple from the waveguide layer by passing through the first active layer in at least one selectable region of the first active layer. The apparatus may further include a redirecting layer, coupled to or proximate to the first active layer, to redirect the portion of the optical beam decoupled from the waveguide towards the lenslet layer.

摘要: The present disclosure relates to systems, methods, and sensors configured to characterize a radiation beam. At least one embodiment relates to an optical system. The optical system includes an optical radiation guiding system. The optical radiation guiding system includes a collimator configured to collimate the radiation beam into a collimated radiation beam. The optical radiation guiding system also includes a beam shaper configured to distribute power of the collimated radiation beam over a discrete number of line shaped fields. A spectrum of the collimated radiation beam entering the beam shaper is delivered to each of the discrete number of line shaped fields. The optical system further includes a spectrometer chip. The spectrometer chip is configured to process the spectrum of the collimated radiation beam in each of the discrete number of line shaped fields coming from the beam shaper.

摘要: In a light guide device, a step between optical surfaces connected to each other by a connection portion can be limited (e.g., to 1 mm or smaller) so that a large stepped portion is not allowed to be formed at the connection portion in a hard coat formation process, whereby a coating liquid that flows along portions that are to form the optical surfaces forms no liquid pool or causes no liquid sagging. The light guide device can thus maintain satisfactory light guiding performance at the light guide portion.

摘要: An imaging directional backlight apparatus includes a waveguide and light source array for providing large area directed illumination from localized light sources. The waveguide may include a stepped structure in which steps may include extraction features optically hidden to guided light, propagating in a forward direction. Returning light propagating in a backward direction may be refracted, diffracted, or reflected by the features to provide discrete illumination beams exiting from the top surface of the waveguide. Viewing windows are formed through imaging individual light sources and defines the relative positions of system elements and ray paths. Alignment of the waveguide to mechanical and optical components may be provided by surface relief features of the waveguide arranged in regions adjacent the input surface and intermediate the light emitting regions of the light sources. Efficient, uniform operation may be achieved with low cross talk for application to autostereoscopic and privacy modes of operation.

摘要: Disclosed is an imaging directional backlight apparatus comprising a waveguide, a light source array, and a further optical element for providing large area directed illumination from localized light sources. The imaging directional backlight may comprise a stepped waveguide that may include a stepped structure, in which the steps may further include extraction features optically hidden to guided light, propagating in a first forward direction. Returning light propagating in a second backward direction may be refracted, diffracted, or reflected by the features to provide discrete illumination beams exiting from the top surface of the waveguide. Viewing windows are formed through imaging individual light sources. The further optical element may comprise a superlens comprising first and second aligned lens arrays that may be arranged to modify the output viewing windows to achieve enhanced window imaging from the directional backlight.
