Abstract: Perturbed oscillatory kinetics electrochemistry methods include methods of determining an electrochemical response of a test coupon to a mechanical load. Such methods include applying a cell of electrolyte solution to a test region on a test coupon, contacting the electrolyte solution with a counter electrode, and applying a mechanical load to the test coupon to produce a deflection event. Additionally, methods include measuring a pre-event value of an electrical parameter of the test coupon, before applying the mechanical load, and measuring a post-event value of the electrical parameter, after applying the mechanical load. Methods include determining an electrochemical response of the test coupon to the mechanical load based on the post-event value and the pre-event value.

Abstract: Corrosion inhibition systems, including coated substrates, coating materials and corrosion inhibition compounds, and methods of making the same are disclosed. These systems and methods include corrosion inhibition compounds that are responsive to corrosion at a surface, releasing active inhibitor groups upon a corrosion stimulus. The active inhibitor groups are selected to block corrosion at the surface by inhibiting oxidation reactions, reduction reactions and/or by forming a passivation layer. Corrosion inhibition compounds may be linear polymers that include the inhibitor groups linked together with labile linkages that are disulfide or metal-sulfide bonds.

Abstract: Global icephobic performance of a passive deicing structure may be achieved by including one or more ice nucleating zones that are configured, preselected, and/or arranged to promote selective formation of ice. Ice nucleation zones may be configured, preselected, and/or arranged to form ice that is weakly adherent and, hence, may be removed by sufficient shear force. Ice nucleation zones typically include nucleating particles to promote selective ice formation. Passive deicing structures typically include both ice nucleation zones and ice resisting zones, arranged to facilitate ice removal by shear force. Passive deicing structures may be used on apparatuses such as vehicles (e.g., aircraft) to mitigate the effects of ice formation on exposed surfaces.
